It was our first time to Hallstatt, which is filled with day-travelers and there is no parking within the the city so if you get a hotel within the small city - so must park your car in one of the pay-parking city lots and take a shuttle bus to your hotel. Enter Gastoff Hirlitz - this small penzion is about a 10 minute walk down a path that follows a beautiful clear stream into Hallstatt. You can park your car right at the hotel and parking is free. This hotel is charming with lots of character, the ladies that worked the small reception area were very helpful and friendly, and the included breakfast was great with lots of options. The hotel is also set right next to mountains that run straight up and the views are spectacular. There is a hiking trail up to a gorgeous waterfall very close by. I highly recommend this hotel. If you are a nature lover there are plenty of things to do and see in Hallstatt beyond the gift shops and photos of the lake area - I would recommend spending several days here, you won’t be...

Read moreAs this hotel is a fairly easy walk out of town, it is very quiet and peaceful. Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious with a separate sitting room to relax in. Breakfast was great, in a bright, cozy room, and we had been told dinner was good too. Unfortunately, the dining room was closed for the season when we arrived which made accessing an evening meal a bit of a problem.
