Short version: Avoid eating here. The salad is nothing but shredded iceberg lettuce. You may have to find your own silverware. They will do a bait and switch with food, subbing a lower cost item but charge you full price. They conveniently don’t have change for an all cash place. Meaning we ended up “tipping” 15% on a place where we got a bait and switch, had to find our own silverware, and had to ask for the check four times.
Long version: We ate here our first night in Hallstatt. This place is a huge no go. We ordered fish, spaghetti bolognese, and the farmer’s salad. The farmer’s salad is nothing but shredded iceberg lettuce with three olives, four slices of tomatoes, some cucumbers, and cheese. There were enough other things to have something with each bite of lettuce.
The spaghetti bolognese was non-existent. We were told 45 minutes after ordering there was no more spaghetti and could they sub with another pasta. Fine, stuff happens.
The food comes out, no silverware, we have to get the silverware cup from another table. No cheese for the pasta, no dressing for the salad, no salt or pepper. The pasta sauce was mediocre for €14. The fish was not good and greasy.
As we are eating two other tables order the spaghetti bolognese and they GET it!!! So I got the cheaper, less plentiful pasta for the same price. The other tables also get cheese with their pasta. Something that was desperately needed.
We had to ask for the check four times before they actually brought it to us. They also didn’t have €5 in change. Ensuring we were forced to leave a tip for terrible good and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Schirmbar Halsstatt, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and inviting atmosphere, complemented by the friendly staff who were attentive without being intrusive. The service was truly outstanding; our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations.
The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the fish. Cooked to perfection, it was incredibly fresh and flavorful, showcasing the culinary expertise of the kitchen. Each bite melted in my mouth, and I couldn't help but savor every moment. Alongside the fish, I indulged in some local beer that was simply amazing. The rich flavors and craftsmanship of the brew added a delightful touch to the meal.
As winter approached, I also decided to try their mulled wine, which was a fantastic choice. It was the perfect blend of spices and warmth, making it an ideal companion for a chilly evening. Overall, Schirmbar Halsstatt exceeded my expectations with its fantastic service, exceptional food, and cozy ambiance. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you warm...
Read moreBest place for a quick meal to fill empty stomach early in the morning and late in the evening when all other eateries are closed. Not very pricy for schnitzel served with fries, slightly pricy for its falafel served with salads and fries. Coffee Melange was fine. Waiters are quick in attending to you and get you seated, they are quick into action, friendly and sporting. Don't complaint about the seating as the restaurant is always pack with tourists early in the morning up till late in the evening at 8pm (closing at 9pm). You will sometimes find your table very close to the next one at peak hour, you might as well smile and make friends instead of feeling offensed. Get your meal done and go. View from the restaurant is superb, overseeing the lake. Hope that the waiters can smoke a distance away from the restaurant, that will be the best. We went in twice for a quick meal at odd hours (early morning at 9am, and late evening at 7pm+). We...
