Boutique Hotel Bauer — Hotel in Saalbach-Hinterglemm

We went on a Crystal package staying at the nearby Landhaus annexe of the Hotel Bauer. On arrival at the hotel we received a genuine warm welcome from Silvia, and throughout our stay she was on hand making sure everything was fine. The accommodation at the Landhaus was quite basic and the decor was rather dated and there was no Wi-Fi in the property. However, as we took all our meals in the main hotel and used the facilities there, we spent minimal time in our room. The proximity of the Landhaus to the slopes is excellent as the lift to take you to the nursery slope is right next door. It's also off the main street so you get less noise at night. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals that we were served in the main hotel restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, offering both a selection of hot and cold items, with omelettes freshly cooked on request. The evening meals were also very good with a choice of each course on offer, along with a salad bar and cheese board. I particularly enjoyed the Farmhouse Buffet of meats, but was not so impressed with the Chinese fondue as they are just not my thing. There is an extensive wine list but it was not cheap, and we missed having the option of having just a carafe of house wine to go with our meal. The restaurant staff were friendly and courteous, but on occasions lacked attention to detail, for instance forgetting to bring courses, drinks or the bill. The latter led to us being overcharged on our bar bill for drinks that we didn't have one evening, but to Silvia's credit, this was refunded after I contacted her upon our return. A very good traditional 4 star hotel in the centre of the village, ideally located between the three main lift stations. We arrived mid-evening and received a friendly welcome from the owners who helped us with our luggage and carried our skis down to the ski storage. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. We had booked the Landhaus extension but were given an upgrade to the main hotel which saved walking between the two buildings for breakfast and dinner. Our double room was nicely furnished and comfortable. Plenty of hot water for showers after skiing. Food was very good, particularly the “farmers buffet” on the Thursday evening with carved meats and a dessert buffet which was superb. The buffet breakfast had a great selection including cooked to order omlettes and scrambled eggs. My only criticism was the coffee which came from an automatic machine and was tasteless - even adding a double expresso had no impact. A “filter coffee” was available on request, but even this wasn’t great. Although this was only a minor issue it was a real shame as everything else was of a high standard. Wir wurden bei unserer Anreise zu Silvester sehr freundlich an der Rezeption empfangen und dachten das wird ein toller Aufenthalt. Leider wurden wir maßlos enttäuscht. Das Hotel hat eine Top Lage und sieht sehr schick aus, auch wenn es etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist (Spa-Bereich renovierungsbedürftig, und der Pool leider viel zu kalt - von Entspannung leider keine Rede - in die Sauna passen 2 Leute ohne dass es zu eng wird...) In unserem Zimmer war noch schlechtes Essen vom Vorgänger und die Hygiene Artikel im Badezimmer waren bereits benutzt. Für uns ein absolutes no-go. Der Service war eine komplette Katastrophe, null Kommunikation untereinander und wir mussten 40 Minuten auf den Aperitif warten, der Wein wurde ohne Kühler serviert und die Gläser ohne Probeschluck randvoll gemacht und dann wird man noch vom Kellner angemotzt „er sei hier ja sowieso nicht eingeteilt er sei jetzt im Stress“. Nicht nur das Silvester Menü war eine Frechheit (Strudel total matschig, Hauptgang kalt,…) sondern auch unser „Dinner“ am darauffolgenden Abend. Ich hatte dem Restaurant ausdrücklich mitgeteilt dass ich keine Pilze Esse und bekam dann meinen griechischen Salat mit Champignons?! Zudem war der Hauptgang zu vergleichen mit Kantinenessen! Zum Abschluss wollte ich in Ruhe mit der Chefin sprechen die mich absolut nicht ernst nahm und Anfangs direkt genervt meinte ob ich jetzt einen Rabatt möchte und mich ständig unterbrach. Leider ist sie sehr arrogant mit uns umgegangen und meinte „Solche Gäste wie ihr passt besser in ein anderes Hotel“. Wir waren über diese Inkompetenz mit Gästen umzugehen fassungslos. Wir haben einen stolzen Preis bezahlt welcher unserer Meinung nach absolut nicht gerechtfertigt war, allein schon wegen der Qualität des Essens, dem schlechten Service und der veralteten Ausstattung. Von einem 4-Sterne Hotel bin ich anderes gewohnt. Die Getränkerechnung von knapp über 100€ wurde uns offeriert und wir bekamen eine offensichtlich nicht ernst gemeinte Entschuldigung mit der Bitte das nächste Mal im Hotel nebenan zu buchen.
