Hotel Cocoon — Hotel in Ostend

NL: Superfijn hotel, kamers piekfijn in orde! Voorzien van een groot dubbel bed, bureau met koffie/thee, badkamer met toilet, douche en lavabo, ... Één minpuntjes nl. dat de thermostaat in de kamer weinig zin heeft, aangezien dit een bedieningspaneel is van een installatie met warmtepomp, m.a.w. het aanpassen van de temperatuur kan enkele dagen duren. Het was de gehele nacht 22-23° op de kamer terwijl we het hadden ingesteld op 19°. Om dit op te lossen zetten we de raam open, maar dan komt er wel tot 1-2u 's nachts lawaai van de straat binnen. Verder zeer vriendelijk personeel. 's Morgens verwend met een heerlijk ontbijtbuffet en als kers op de taart lekker lang kunnen genieten van een late checkout tot 13u. Het hotel ligt op slechts een 50-tal meter van het strand en tal van gezellige cafeetjes en restaurants. Naast het hotel is een ondergrondse parking waar je voor 27 euro/dag kan parkeren (max hoogte = 2.10m). Kortom, op enkele minpuntjes na, een zeer fijn verblijf gehad!

F: Hôtel super sympa, chambres en parfait état ! Equipé d'un grand lit double, d'un bureau avec café/thé, d'une salle de bain avec WC, douche et lavabo, ... Un bémol est que le thermostat dans la pièce n'a pas beaucoup de sens, car il s'agit d'un panneau de commande d'une installation avec pompe à chaleur. , en d’autres termes, l’ajustement de la température peut prendre plusieurs jours. Il faisait 22-23° dans la chambre toute la nuit, alors que nous l'avions réglé à 19°. Pour résoudre ce problème, nous ouvrons la fenêtre, mais le bruit de la rue entre jusqu'à 1 heure ou 2 heures du matin. De plus, personnel très sympathique. Faites-vous plaisir le matin avec un délicieux petit-déjeuner buffet et, cerise sur le gâteau, profitez d'un départ tardif jusqu'à 13 heures. L'hôtel se trouve à seulement 50 mètres de la plage et de nombreux cafés et restaurants chaleureux. A côté de l'hôtel se trouve un parking souterrain où vous pourrez vous garer pour 27 euros/jour (hauteur max = 2,10 m). Bref, à un point près, nous avons passé un très bon séjour!

The five stars are for service and location. The rooms and amenities would get 4 stars from me.

The location is very close to the best bits of the Oostende beach and the service I experienced at the reception was professional and friendly.

The hotel is within walking distance of the train station, shops & bars and boat tours as well.

The room however was 'nearly clean', again, good enough but there was room for improvement.

The minibar in the room was warm, reason being, the fridge is in a closed closet with too little ventilation. So the cupboard and fridge is actually warmer than the rest of the room.

I informed reception of that while checking out and paying for the items I consumed from that minibar and got informed that the hotel knows about this issue.

The bed, sheet, and towels were good enough and the furniture was in good taste.

All in all a positive experience,...

Upon arrival, I realized I made an honest mistake with the booking (wrong date) after an exhausting day. I immediately asked for cancellation from booking but the receptionist said she didn't receive it. She also made me understand she would consider waiving the fees only if I booked the last available room that day, which was twice the price! I had no real choice to comply or to lose my whole payment. I would expect such a hotel to be more comprehensive.

Also on the topic of value : The room was big with a terrace, but this terrace was dirty, and empty of any furniture except two (dirty) chairs. So the added price for an unusable terrace is clearly not worth it. There are no amenities such as a sport room or a pool, which you could expect for a hotel when you pay 250€ for a ...
