It's more like a hostel. The room I booked was listed to have a 'shower' and 'shared bathrooms'. It turned out that about 6 double bed rooms share 2.5 bathrooms, all of which were pretty clean. No private showers... The buildings are well-maintained and clean, but simple. A common fridge (which pretty old and wasn't cleaned out during my 5-day stay and had leftover restaurant food in it despite people having already left, so it seems unchecked for the most part) was in the hallway. There was no room service (e.g. trash emptied, beds made) during my entire stay, but it was possible to get fresh towels if desired. The top floors get pretty warm, and there only are room and ceiling fans. The ocean breeze does not enter the rooms since the insect fences act as an air block (I still spotted a few mosquitos in the room...). Toilet paper is not refilled, but there is a shelf in the hallways with fresh rolls. One should therefore should check before business :) Smokers tend to smoke on the terraces/patios in front of other guests' windowless rooms, and smoke enters the rooms. Considering that there are plenty of signs covering the mundane to the profane, management should put up a few signs for smokers to go a few steps into the garden (which btw has plenty of lawn furniture). Miss Lydia is very friendly and accomodating. Definitely worth the money, but one should be heat tolerant to get some rest in the...
Read moreThis is a review of PELICAN TOURS, owned and run by Miss Lydia and her son Clint. In Jan. & Feb. 2015 we (self, friends, & family) went on 8 trips with Pelican Tours. The first trip was to Laughing Bird Caye. The friend I was with is not a good swimmer and neither of us had done much snorkeling. Clint made sure we were comfortable with the equipment and the environment. We had a wonderful time and went to Silk Caye a few days later. There, we saw some other tours and realized how fortunate we were in choosing Pelican Tours. These groups of 10, 20, or more people were basically herded by the tour operators. I'm sure that most of the people had a good experience--it would be hard not to, given the beauty of the area--but little or no individual help was provided. Our experiences just got better with each trip as Clint got to know us and our interests. Clint was fantastic with my 7 & 9-year old grandsons on their 3 snorkeling trips. He was patient with them and encouraged them in this new adventure while never pushing them beyond their capacity. As a result, they stayed in the water longer, swam farther, and enjoyed it more each time. Other friends, who are experienced snorkelers and scuba divers, also had the highest praise for Clint. All this and Miss Lydia's delicious lunches. Also, as far as I could determine, the fees are pretty much the same as those charged by...
Read moreWas clean and ok but I expected more hospitality for the price. Sadly it has turned into a mass tourism business and lost it's guest house charme.
For that price you find other places with far better service...
Everytime you need something Ms. Lydia gives you the impression you just woke her up (no matter what time of the day) and you'd better don't ask her anything. She's not really a help for information about the place. Just when you're paying to leave she offers you her attention!
Pros: Clean Hot Water Fan in the room
Cons: No WIFI in Room No help for finding a snorkelling tour, Lydia just told me afterwards they did one this day but asked nobody else in the house if he wants to join. Charged 5$ more for Laundry then written in the room information guide "oh these...
