The good and bad of Captain Morgan’s retreat:

First of all, every number they have is sketchy, we all tried over and over to get in touch with them and were rarely successful. After my stay was over and I’m Back in America. they owed me $418.00 American and I never get them to answer their number or email my several emails.

The inside of the rooms were very nice and clean, room service was great and helpful but the outside needs a lot of updating and upkeep. the mosquitos were just horrendous and I know they can’t do a whole lot about that but we couldn’t even swim in the pool because our face would get bit. Maybe that’s just an area they gather. Not sure.

We went to the on site restaurant and the restaurant managaer told us if we paid cash, it would be no tax and cheaper, I had a credit with the resort of 818.00US so I wanted to use that and explained it to him, he was fine with it and said I could use the credit in front of the whole table.

We got 4 lobster dinners, some quesadilla’s and drinks for a party of 8 and it turned out to be $400.00 american..which is fine. The flies were horrendous while eating, there were no less than 100 flies swarming us while eating and we had to eat as fast as we could to avoid the flies.

I left to get ready for the night knowing it was already paid for and my brother was still eating. I left him the tip in cash and went to my room.. The manager approached my brother after I left and told him he had to pay the $400.00 American cash and he wouldn’t accept the credit. I had to come back and remind him that he said—in front of the whole table…he was argumentative and I kept reminding him that he said, in front of everyone, that I could use my credit and he backed down and said fine but was clearly not happy. We still ended up Leaving over 100.00 tip in cash but he still looked unhappy so we didn’t eat there again.

Everything else went fine during the stay with them and we even booked a catamaran snorkeling excursion through them that was very reasonably priced. We enjoyed that very much.

As I checked out, the front desk worker told me to speak with Alex about the 418.00 American refund because I didn’t spend the whole balance. I called the number several times with no answer and have emailed twice with no reply.

Needless to say, be careful booking there and make sure you have everything in writing. Have witnesses when you try to charge anything to te he room or have a credit.

We loved the island and the people and will absolutely be back but will not be staying at Captain...

Very relaxing. Excellent, very friendly, helpful staff. But if you're expecting a Hilton experience, it ain't for you. But then again, if you're expecting a Hilton experience, Belize probably ain't for you either. We stayed in a one bedroom downstairs bungalow on the beach. We had requested an upstairs unit when we reserved but there wasn't one available when we checked in.

First the negative. *There were a few glitches with the room; the bedroom lights not working, the fan being too loud to use. *The shower water tasted and felt salty for the first few days but then it cleared up. *They take your towels in the AM and then wash them and bring them back in the PM so we found ourselves without a towel after a few midday hikes or swims.

Neutral: *They do sell timeshares here but if you get asked once and say you're not interested, they never bother you again. *There's a ton of sea grass, making swimming in the ocean really out of the question. It also can result in an interesting smell if the wind's blowing on-shore. But that's anywhere in Ambergris, not just here. *The casino is small and can be fun if you're a gambler but it was much too smoky for us. *There are bikes to borrow to ride into town but most days they were gone by mid morning forcing us to rent a golf cart. They need more bikes.

But now the positive. *The bartenders, tour arrangers, management were probably the friendliest we have ever experienced, especially Oscar and Joel. And Capt Danny was an awesome tour guide. *Snorkeling tours were great but skip the cave tour. Borrow the kayaks and paddle out to the reef yourself for a great time. Be sure to take a few beers with you as we did but BRING THE BOTTLES BACK! The kayaks tend to be in high demand as well but we were told they are getting more soon. *The food quality and service in the restaurant and bar was second to none. In this respect, it beats many Hilton or Hyatt resort restaurants I've been to. You never have to worry about finding space around the pool or on the beach. And the cost was incredibly reasonable. Happy hour at the bar gets you $2 beers and several $3 mixed rum drink specials. *The beach, pool and all common areas were meticulously cleaned. The swim up bars were great although they are closed on Sat and Sunday. And you never have to worry about finding chairs at the pools or on the beach when you just want to...

Everything looks pretty and is aesthetically pleasing, but this was the worst stay I have ever had at a hotel/resort. Upon arrival, we were really impressed with the property and our room setup. However, once we started using things that's when we discovered the issues. The A/C did not work in one of our bedrooms (had a two-bedroom villa), the tv in the large bathroom was hanging out of the wall, the shower was not clean, the water in the hot tub on the balcony would not get hot, the wifi in the room did not work (was fixed a day later), water pressure in both showers were extremely low, the mattress on the sofa bed had stains and extra sheets for the sofa bed were dirty. Since the villa does not have a phone, with each issue we would have to walk down to the office. The A/C in the master bedroom did not get fixed until our last night on the property. Additionally, we reserved a one-bedroom villa for when another friend would arrive a few days later. Once we received the keys to that unit, the A/C was broke in their as well. It was unbearably hot, felt like a sauna. There was no way anyone could sleep like that. After practically begging all day, we were finally given another villa around midnight. Our issues were not handled satisfactorily nor did we receive any type of compensation. This definitely affected the trip as we had issue after issue in what we thought would be a wonderful stay. I cannot recommend this property and advise against...

We came to celebrate our Anniversary. This place was very nice and the staff were A+ they have rooms for all budgets with beautiful views Justin showed us around and was very helpful. We started with a villa on the beach then were upgraded to a condo which was bigger and higher end. see the view from the condo. Greg the room Manager is awesome and really worked with us. I could name all the staff from House keeping to restaurants to bartenders they were all great nice and friendly. So much to do here kayak, paddle board, snorkeling, 3 pools, I brought my pole and fished and took a kayak out and fished caught Snappers and a bone fish. The guys meet a the pier at night and fish. They also have a Casino and restaurants If you like lobster get a whole one grilled it was Delicious. We would defiantly come back didn't want to leave.

The location was beautiful. We had a one bedroom beachfront condo. It could have used a bit of updating but it was still very pleasant. Most of the staff were generally very friendly. Unfortunately the concierge staff took a disliking to us (not sure why, could be because we booked tours on our own not through the resort, or that we didn't buy a timeshare) The concierge and desk staff were generally rude or polite in a way that made you feel that they really didn't like you (my husband calls it "grin-fu#$%ing".) Our housekeeper Venci was awesome though. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again not because it wasn't nice enough but because the vibe wasn't what we were looking for.
