If you drive up and down the road North of San Pedro, you will start to see clever signs for La Cala. ‘24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case, coincidence?’ and the like. Staying at Oceans 23, we drove by dozens of their signs every day until, eventually, we had to stop and try the restaurant. I can honestly say it was the friendliest place we’ve been to in Belize. Everyone talked to everyone and most people there seemed like they knew each other. We immediately felt like regulars.
The food was good and the prices average for Ambergris Caye. I ordered the spicy shrimp and I really enjoyed the hot sauce they gave me with it. Our daughter said the chicken strips (we asked for grilled and they obliged) were the best she’s had in the week she’s been here. My wife ordered the pork chop and said it was a bit too sweet for her liking but she ate it all so I guess it was pretty good regardless. We ordered the hummus platter too but they were out. I also asked if my daughter could get fry jacks instead of French fries but that was also a no. Not a big deal but a yes is always better.
The restaurant isn’t part of the resort but you can use the pool we were told. The grounds are stunning, well manicured sand takes you right to the edge of the water. While we were there we got to see one of the new signs that had been painted today and was ready to be deployed somewhere soon. I also appreciated that the Buffalo Bills mafia was represented on the ceiling.
