An overall unpleasant experience. We made a reservation via hostelworld based on reviews and some word-of-mouth references - all which spoke wonders of this place. We have been on the road in Peru and Bolivia for 3 weeks including Uyuni (where accommodations are BASIC) and can now say that even such "basic accommodations" were much better than this hostel - both in terms of accommodation and staff.
The gentleman at the reception desk started off by complaining about hostelworld and their reservation platform (which was far from professional and neccesary). He then proceeded to signing us in and was clearly offended by our question as to why it was "obligatory" to write down ALL of our details (profession, age etc.) in their sign in sheet. Again, we know that such details are asked at check-in BUT have never been "forced" to give all details out - only full names, passport numbers and age were required at all previous accommodations. Later (after having walked around Potosi all day), we came back to the hostel and let the receptionist (a different man) know that we would be checking out at 08:00 am the next morning due to a tour. This man then went ahead and asked us why we had asked about giving so much information earlier on and NOT in a nice way. He then, still with his attitude, runs to the door to catch the other receptionist (who was leaving) and insisted we pay all of our balance then and there as if we were planning on escaping the hostel the next morning without paying. Again, totally unprofressional and rude to say the least.
Accommodation wise, this place is also not the best. The towels provided smelled unwashed and the bed covers need to be renewed desperately. The room was musty and the shower curtain should be changed too.
It seems very silly to be making such review but after so much travelling from hostel to hostel in Peru and Bolivia, our experience here was very unpleasant. We have never travelled luxuriously and have stayed at very basic, cheap hostels but this experience has certainly been one of the worst. To many, this review may even be useless, but to us as solo female travellers, the attitude from the staff made us feel unsafe and not welcomed. After a full day of walking around Potosi, we are 100% sure there are way many other accommodations that should be considered before...
Read moreI don't like writing negative reviews, but we didn't enjoy our stay. Had a private double room in this hostel. Shabby is a good adjective, but not in a chic way. Everything was worn and old and the bathroom was grubby and had had numerous half-assed repairs to the tiles. I did not bathe there--it just looked too unclean (and I'm used to hostels!). ||||In general, the place is a little run-down and seems somewhat expensive for what you get in terms of a private en-suite room. I don't think I'd stay here again, although it is in a good location and the view from the roof is interesting, as it has a panoramic view of the cerro rico (I wouldn't say the view is "nice" because very little of Potosí is nice). The staff were nice, in my experience, although not overly friendly. The owner, or one of the owners, was repairing his motorcycle right in the middle of the common area/courtyard when we stayed, which filled the entire hostel with the smell of motor oil that lingered for more than a day. Weird place to fix it, and pretty...
Read moreHostel is reasonably well located. Breakfast was OK, nice bread and orange juice among other things. The one really good thing was - there was well functioning heating.||But!||The manager must be the rudest man in Bolivia. He did not like something I said while checking in, and made an issue out of it. When I asked for free toiletries promised in the booking, he advised that I was free to find another hotel (the only thing provided was liquid soap). I see from other reviews that he is rude to guests on regular basis. ||The room was not ready - I had to ask for everything from towels to toilet paper. Of course my request was met with more rudeness.||The hotel is run down, in bad need of a coat of paint; the bathroom ceiling had what looked like black mould. The sofa in reception is sooo dirty. All the furniture was rickety with age. The bed cover looked disgusting dirty purple colour, with small white staff sticking to it. The...
