Intercity Porto Maravilha is a hotel that was clearly intended for a certain target audience and today caters to another.||The rooms are well decorated with a modern look. However, some details draw attention, as the lack of glasses/cups in the rooms, empty support for hair dryers and the bathroom looks like it was imagined to have a decoration that no longer exists.||The impression I had is that they lack staff prepared to meet the demands of guests.||I arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon. At check-in, I requested a double bed. The answer was "your reservation is for a single bed, we will not have a double bed for you. If you want to wait, feel free, but I cannot guarantee we will have any available."||The dinner buffet was clearly the lunch menu that was reused. Food choices were few. Despite being a fair food, for R$50.00 per person, I expected more. I asked the waiter for the menu and was informed that only the buffet was available that day. However, I could order food from room service (?!?!)||The next morning the bathroom had an unbearable smell of sewage. I requested a change of room and the answer was that they did not know if the exchange could be made because the hotel was full. Luckily the stench was gone in the afternoon.||The hotel offers a rooftop swimming pool. We arrived and there were no pool towels available. Although we had asked the front desk several times and said that it was already being arranged, after two hours the towels had not arrived. I also noticed that there was no bar in the pool area to serve drinks or snacks.||The room my friend was in, all of a sudden, had its AC turned off. After calling the reception desk, she was informed there was a problem in another unit and they had to shut down the whole AC system on the floor to avoid a short circuit. Maintenance would not be available until the next morning. Rooms have locked windows, so the temperature was unbearable after a few minutes. My friend had to ask to change rooms, otherwise, nothing would have been done.||Apparently, the number of employees is very small, to contain costs.||I would like to highlight the attendance of some restaurant staff, who kept the smile, despite not being able to meet some of my requests.||Overall, I do not...
Read moreI visited in september 2017 coming from US. This was the best place I've stayed in Brazil. I picked the place because it was close to a bus station which is the only reasonably priced method of travel around Brazil (rental cars can cost more than plane tickets when going to other cities). It's also close to the smaller airport, which I used for a last minute ticket to Sao Paulo. Turns out you can't easily buy last minute plane tickets in brazil like you can in the US. But his hotel staff went above and beyond when I asked them for translation help. They actually made calls to the airlines trying to get my ticket booked for me. They were also helpful in planning some nightlife activities. The rooms are very modern, spacious, and comfortable; compared to other places I stayed. My only complaints would be the hours of restaurant operation, although they still have other options since there's frozen dinners for sale all day. And, there is room to improve cleanliness, but they are still the cleanest place I stayed... After all few places are going to hold up to US standards of sterility that we're used to. It's located in a warehouse area. The neighborhood looks shady but I saw no reason to believe it was dangerous. You have a great view in all directions at this place; especially if you're at the roof top pool. I literally sat by the window for 2 full days straight (too sick to go out) watching the streets. There were kids and lone women on the streets. Nothing...
Read moreLet me start by saying that Thamirys at the front desk was my ANGEL! I struggled with so many things since I couldn’t speak Portuguese and she held my hand through it all from talking to my Ubers to buying stamps for me to mail my post cards when I left because I didn’t realize the post office would be closed. Moayaea was very pleasant at checkin and Daniel helped me get my Carnival parade tickets all squared away when I missed the guy for drop off. I was told repeatedly this was not a safe area of town and not to walk around. There is nothing in the area except the bus station that I didn’t realize was so resourceful until my last day there. It was a huge station with a lot of fast food options, a little store, plenty of ATM’s and a post office. I did walk around the area because this was where A LOT of the carnival floats were stored. So on carnival days they had the floats out working on them so I was able to get up close and personal. I had a lovely view of the harbor and the city from my room. The pool had some awesome view as well. I would definitely stay at this...
