A Tropical Paradise in the Heart of Rio - Simply Exceptional!

From the moment we arrived at Santa Teresa Hotel, we were transported to a tranquil oasis in the vibrant heart of Rio de Janeiro. This stunning boutique hotel truly delivers on all fronts—food, rooms, service, team, spa, and location—everything was beyond amazing!

✨ The Rooms: Our room was an elegant blend of luxury and comfort, beautifully designed with a touch of rustic chic that pays homage to Brazil's heritage. The bed? So comfortable it felt like sleeping on a cloud, with linens that scream pure indulgence. Waking up to views of lush greenery was the cherry on top.

🍽️ The Food: The dining experience was spectacular! From gourmet breakfasts on the terrace to exquisite dinners at the Térèze restaurant, every dish was a celebration of Brazilian flavors. Fresh ingredients, artful presentations, and vibrant tastes—each meal felt like a culinary journey through Brazil. The caipirinhas? Hands down, the best in Rio!

💆‍♀️ The Spa: The spa experience was pure bliss. The treatments were soothing, personalized, and carried out by highly skilled professionals. The setting was serene, surrounded by nature—perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the city.

🌟 The Service & Team: The team here deserves a standing ovation. Warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about hospitality, they went above and beyond to make us feel special. From personalized recommendations to small touches like welcome gifts and thoughtful surprises, their kindness elevated our entire stay.

📍 The Location: Santa Teresa is the perfect neighborhood—charming, artsy, and tucked away from the hustle and bustle. We loved exploring the cobblestone streets, local art galleries, and vibrant cafes. Plus, it’s just a short ride away from Rio’s main attractions, like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain.

🌴 Overall: Santa Teresa Hotel is a hidden gem—a seamless mix of relaxation, culture, and luxury. Whether you're lounging by the gorgeous pool, indulging in the spa, or savoring the incredible food, every moment feels unforgettable. It's the ultimate escape for travelers who want to experience Rio in style while immersing themselves in true Brazilian charm.

We left with hearts full and can’t wait to return. If you’re looking for a dream stay in Rio, Santa Teresa Hotel is the place to be....

Forgive the long review but it is worth reading it. ||I went with my husband, son, daughter in law and baby granddaughter to MGallery Santa Teresa Hotel in Rio de Janeiro in June, 2025. ||My son and his wife had been here four times before and couldn’t wait to bring my husband and I to see the view and to experience the relaxing and rustic atmosphere. Unfortunately the pool area was under construction and there was no view. However, Rafaela (receptionist) and the hotel manager were very apologetic and eager to make our experience outstanding. ||The hotel’s professionalism ranges from the welcoming and helpful doormen to the restaurant staff! Everyone’s goal is to please the guests and to ensure your stay will be comfortable, happy and unforgettable. ||The Spa massages are reportedly wonderful. I wasn’t able to benefit from them, but my children did and raved about them. The restaurant staff is amazing! You can relish in their breakfast menu (weekends they serve an amazing buffet, but weekdays are smaller a la carte options - delicious nevertheless). I highly recommend the shrimp with heart of palm dinner dish. ||Alex, the barman, is a wizard of drinks and a do-it-all friendly helper. The passion fruit caipirinha was my number one favorite drink which Alex prepared perfectly - with low but just right amount of sugar! My husband enjoyed the lemon caipirinha with low sugar also. Alex saw how stressed I was when I arrived with my granddaughter who needed to be fed, and recognized I had forgotten my drink at the bar. He made a new one, brought to my room, and told me it was “on the house”. Attentive and kind.||I am Brazilian/American and am proud to say that Santa Teresa Hotel leaves nothing behind the best hotels in the world. ||Highly, highly, highly recommend it with absolutely no...

Our experience at the Santa Teresa hotel was disappointing. The service was the main let down, it was inflexible, disorganized and often unfriendly. The property itself is quite beautiful but needs better maintenance and care, while the design of the rooms and common areas is stylish but gives little regard to comfort.

We stayed in one of the smaller suites at the hotel for a full week. The room was quite large but was missing some key comforts - like two chairs so that my wife and I could enjoy a coffee or drink together. The closets smelled stale, and one of the doors to the patio wouldn’t close. These are just a few examples of the maintenance issues that we encountered.

We were traveling with our baby daughter, so we had special needs that the hotel was clearly not prepared for. We strongly recommend that parents traveling with babies avoid this hotel, below is a more detailed overview of the reasons why.

This is not a baby friendly hotel. When we arrived we found a dirty baby crib in our room. They didn’t have a mattress so they folded up a comforter and put a crib sheet on it. We tried to get the kitchen to make baby food on multiple occasions - it’s simple, some cooked veggies without salt processed in a blender. They were unable to fulfill this simple request.

The two redeeming qualities of the hotel are the beauty of the property itself and the delicious restaurant that they have onsite. The gardens are lush, filled with local flora; the main building has an old-world charm; and the pool has breathtaking views (though that’s coupled with really uncomfortable chairs).

The restaurant suffers from the same service issue that affects the rest of the property but the food is delicious enough to help you forget about...

I recently stayed at the Santa Teresa Hotel and had a mixed experience. The check-in staff were lovely, and as part of my Hotels.com status, I received an upgrade to a ground-floor balcony room, which was a nice touch. The hotel has an upscale rustic vibe, but some areas, like the corridors leading to the rooms, could use a refresh. The room itself was comfortable, and the bed was great, but the in-room facilities left something to be desired. The shower gel was in a dispenser, the toilet wasn’t soft-close, and overall, it felt like the smaller details that make a 5-star hotel stand out were missing. It feels like the hotel could benefit from a bit more care and some upgrades since its opening. The best part of the hotel is definitely the grounds – lots of beautiful greenery that creates a serene atmosphere. Dinner was another highlight, with delicious food and great service from Andrew. However, breakfast was a disappointment. While the buffet spread was good and there was an à la carte menu available, the avocado toast with poached egg that I ordered featured unripe avocado and rock-hard bread. Service during breakfast was so slow; I waited about 5 mins for a menu after being seated, and no one cleared our plates during the meal. The terrace offers a great view for sunset, but the experience was dampened by unfriendly staff and messy toilets. Overall, the hotel is charming but feels a bit old and tired, needing a refresh to truly match its 5-star promise. With some updates and better attention to detail, it could be exceptional.
