I am not writing this to sway you, but instead to give you a glimpse of my experience here and what you may experience should you choose to book.
Stayed 5 nights (thur-tue): -1st night. Room not cleaned. There was electrical debris and drywall shavings under the media console. We went down with a picture of the mess and asked for someone to come clean. Front desk said they would send someone. Given someone would be in the room cleaning we opted to wait before going to sleep or showering. After the first hour, called the front desk and again we were told someone would arrive shortly. Began getting tired after a full day of traveling and called again, again we were told someone would come. -2nd day. Room remains unclean. Went to the front desk and asked why no one had come. We were told the request had never been put in. For this they gave us complementary breakfast. However, our room was not cleaned until our regular scheduled housekeeping visit. -3rd day. Sink fell in. The sink in the bathroom fell in while I was using it. Thankfully the drain pipe stayed intact, preventing the sink from falling down completely. We called the front desk, an engineer came to inspect. The engineer determined the sink was not in good condition. He proceed to disconnect it and place the sink bowl on the floor. The front desk called, apologized and told us we would be placed in a new room. I asked to speak with a manager and was told the manager would be in contact shortly. The engineer left and shortly after the manager arrived at our door. She took a look at the sink and apologize d, she informed us we will have to switch rooms but because of the inconvenience she would upgrade our room to an ocean front room. (Background: we asked for ocean front prior to booking and went as far as to visit before our stay to ensure we would get ocean front rooms. Upon arrival we were told ocean front was not available and we would instead have to settle for a partial ocean view.) I asked if the room we were moving to had a late checkout and she said she would make sure. However we needed to pack and move to our new room. We let her know we were leaving for a scheduled event shortly and we were not sure if we could pack in time. She let us know if we could pack and gather our items in one place she would have a bell hop move out items while we were gone. Hence we rushed to pack up before leaving to our event. Upon our return we went to collect our new keys and asked if our items had been moved. After inquiring, the lady at the front desk informed us or items had not been moved. Hence we had to go to our old room and move out luggage to our new room. -5th day. Shower knob falls in "new room". After showering went to turn off the water and the handle fell off, nearly hitting my foot. The noise was so loud my friend knocked on the door asking if everything was okay. I finished dressing went to the front desk and asked that they fix it. The front desk agent, having seen me and my friend several times again apologize and said she would have it attached properly as soon as possible. -Checkout. Mysterious charges. Our bill was lumped with another room (Background: two couples came with us on this trip. We all checked in separately and did not identify as one party). Only one room was merged with ours and not the other. We ended up having to calculate out our charges. In addition the bill had drinks and dinner that were not ours or the other couples. They pulled the bill to verify and turns out the charges were neither of ours. Finally received the finalized bill.
I have stayed at many Marriott establishments. I also, travel very frequently through out the year and was dumb founded at how many blunders happens during my stay here. However, not all was unpleasant, The lead over breakfast service and the lead over the executive lounge were extremely pleasant and saved my stay here from being a 100% loss. Even though my stay at the Sheraton impacted my visit in Rio negatively, I was still able to enjoy many events and...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in the hotel for 10 days for our honeymoon after receiving a recommendation from a friend. When we first arrived we were disappointed because the room had not been cleaned adequately (dirty carpet, stains and dead bugs in the bathroom) and despite informing the hotel we were coming for our honeymoon we didn’t receive any special welcome, for example a note or message from the hotel or chocolate gift as we saw others receive on Instagram. We complained to the reception about the cleanliness and the next morning the room was cleaned to our expectations, we were happy with how the complaint was handled.
The hotel room we were given was an ocean view on the 10th floor. The view was amazing and we loved falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean. However we feel that for the price and star rating of the hotel, the rooms need to be refurbished, the room feels dated and the bathroom finishings are not befitting of the hotel we expected from the pictures; messy paintwork and grouting, broken wooden furniture, poor quality shower and at one point there was no hot water so our first night was cold showers. We have stayed in lower and similarly priced and rated hotels and the quality of the room and bathrooms were better than this hotel. We used the tennis courts and gym during our stay which was a nice option. We both had the tropical Spa experience which was a wonderful and relaxing experience and the Spa staff were great.
We chose the all inclusive option at the hotel and we were not disappointed with the selections available and the high quality of food on offer from the restaurants. The service from the staff at the restaurants was wonderful.
The location of the hotel is excellent, after exploring the area we determined it has the best location of all the hotels in Ipanema / Leblon / Copacabana, because of the direct beach access to a “private” beach. Halfway through the stay we received a note in our room to say there was a problem with the pre payment and amount of consumption. We were very surprised because we had the all inclusive option and had not taken anything not included. We called the reception to inquire about the problem and the person was not able to explain what was the problem. (My wife is Brazilian so language was not the problem). We had to go down to the reception to speak with someone else, where we were told that the pre payment taken by the hotel was not enough to cover the cost of our stay (10 days) and so an additional payment was needed. The hotel knew we were staying for 10 days and should have known the total cost of our stay (excluding extras not included Ina lol inclusive), and taken the payment up front, rather than send us an ambiguously and informally written letter, halfway through the stay which the staff could not explain on the Phone. This was an annoying inconvenience and not a nice experience which the hotel could have very easily avoided.
To be 5 stars and for us to consider staying again on our next trip to Rio, the quality of the rooms must...
Read moreEarly check in was possible with a fee. This was very handy since the flight was in the morning. Pay the fee, it’s worth it, at least for us it was as we had very long flights. We had a king room with a pull out sofa and small kitchenette with a bar, bar stools, good size fridge, sink (zero cold water in the kitchen sink), a microwave, coffee machine with coffee. Little ones. Mini bar with pricey snacks as all mini bars are. We were on floor two with a great balcony, with two chairs and a little table. The hall did smell like mildew as this floor and floor one are lower than the lobby. The pull out couch is not separate really from the rest of the room. So don’t expect a separate room that can be closed from the other people in the room. We had plenty of hot water, it takes a minute to figure out the shower water handle. The room had lots of storage and good sized. Get the room that includes the lounge where you can eat breakfast without huge lines and a happy hour. The breakfasts are amazing. Paying the extra for this lounge access is worth it. Happy hour was full of young kids. This is a very family friendly place, which is good, but I was not expecting happy hour to sound like a nursery school.|A lot of families it seems use this as dinner. A little obnoxious. The hot tub does not allow kids under 16 and this is enforced to the dismay of some parents that use the pool area as a babysitter. It was nice it was enforced otherwise it would be packed at all times to the brim with small kids. Don’t go here on school vacation week if you want any quiet during the day at the pool. I think day passes are sold as well, this is not the norm for a place at this price point. There is no gift shop with sundries. The pool is huge and very warm. There is good security. The pool bar good and great service. The beach is not private but feels that way. We took Ubers everywhere, cheap, timely, easy and efficient. You can get the hotel to take you places in their cars for roughly double the money. The ride will be nicer no doubt. The bed, linens, pillows were all nice and comfortable. A/C works but to get it to lower temps is hard. Avoid the pizza if you know what good pizza is. Drinks are good. Pull out sofa bed had seen better days. Some furniture has seen better days in the room. The lobby is large and airy. This is a large hotel with great views. The elevators are a bit nuts. You will see. Staff very friendly and helpful. The beach has very large waves, it’s rough. Don’t plan on relaxing swims or fun snorkeling, you will be disappointed. There is a Brazilian lunch BBQ buffet, amazing!! It’s in a great location. The views are amazing. Stay on the water side with a view and the waves will lull you to sleep. You do not have to cross the street to get to the beach, hotel is on the beach,...
