We mistakenly thought the hotel is 3 stars due to the Booking website star rating put up by the hotel themselves, however Google says it's 2 stars and this seems more appropriate.
Pros: Excellent location, really close to the city centre and the beach Good customer service - the staff are nice and helpful Some parking spots available around the hotel, so we had no issues in this regard You can hear seagulls from the room, which I personally like Air conditioning works well enough to keep the summer heat away Mini-fridge available if you want to keep something fresh in there. However, it is on only when you are in the room, as the electricity is on only when your key card is placed in the room in the designated slot. So mostly this can be used overnight.
Cons: Not good on clealiness. The shower curtain was yellow at the bottom The bathroom itself emitted strong and unpleasant sewage odours coming from, what I'm guessing is, oldish pipes and stuff. To minimise the odours you can keep the bathroom door shut and avoid using the bathroom fan, which makes it stronger too. The carpet is dirty. I walked in clean white socks on it and they became brownish from it. The pillows and pillow cases had some yellow staining on them. I think that they were washed but just that it's time that they are changed, as this doesn't seem hygienic at all. I thought we (me and my partner) were booking a double room with one bed for both of us. However, it turned out that there were two separate beds (fixed to opposite walls). You have to make sure to clarify this beforehand if you want to avoid sleeping separately. The beds weren't very comfortable. My partner found it too small for him, as it appeared more kid-sized than adult-sized, so not enough leg room really. Personally, I found the mattress was a bit hard for my liking (some hard bits in it gave me a bit of lower-back pain), but not terrible, so mid quality sleep can be achieved. I also felt a faint cigarrette odour from the mattress itself (it's a no smoking room), but as this was faint, it didn't bother me that much. Some loud noises at times can be heard too from outside, which may bother some people. The hotel is indeed on a street, so this seemed expected and not an issue for me. The interior of the room and the furniture are quite oldish looking and like there haven't been any renovations for 20 years or so. The wallpaper was peeling in some places.
Overall, the best positive is the location. If they make some improvements to the rooms in terms of cleanliness and furniture, the rating could improve. There may be differences from room to room, as I see many positive reviews as well, but both rooms 301 and 302 were in the same condition, as...
Read moreGood location, close walking distance to where you want to go. Staff pleasant, kind, helpful. Breakfast was fine. I didn’t think the street outside was too loud. I am not sure if I got unlucky with my room, but I’m seriously perplexed by the good reviews this place has. My room was disgusting—bathroom especially smelled like mold, mildew. I gagged when I walked in, every time. Visible mold on the shower curtain and elsewhere in the bathroom. Walls of the room were filthy; you can see on the wall behind the headboard stains from the oils of people’s hair. Also there is no plug near the bed. I asked for another room, but they were too busy. I actually developed a respiratory illness from the mold in the room. Maybe I’m just unlucky and have an allergy, but be warned if you’re sensitive. I’ve been sick for 2 days. Lastly, this is just a general warning. The staff very kindly arranged a taxi pickup for me very early in the morning to the airport. They even confirmed the price for me with the taxi company: no more than 15 leva. I carried 28 leva cash thinking it’s more than enough, but I was scammed and charged triple. The reception said they can book a private service for 30 leva, but the regular taxi was cheaper--maybe it is best to use their private car service, because the taxi...
Read moreAs long as you are only looking for a comfortable bed and a central location to both transport (buses to the airport, bus no.15 leave every 15 minutes from a stop, 50m away) closeness to the railway station and a short 2 minute walk to the main pedestrian shopping areas. Then Hotel Bulair, is your perfect choice.
Yes, its location can mean that lower floor bedrooms, sharing the roadside are subject to quite severe noise intrusion. But this hotel is friendly, cheap, has great staff and offers a really good breakfast for your money. At night their restaurant is very popular with the locals and I thoroughly recommend that you try it if you choose to stay here.
One word of warning. I'm disabled and struggle quite badly with stairs. The Bulair has stairs at the front entrance, stairs at the side entrance...plus stairs to reception...and stairs to and from the restaurant. The hotel has no elevator!!! I usually ask for the room beside the reception desk.
A worthy little hotel that keeps itself to itself. I'd recommend this for couples, singles and business people. Not so sure...
