Hotel Karlovo — Hotel in Nesebar

Ok so i would have been giving this hotel an average but because of our experience checking out i gave it a poor rating. So first the positives. The hotel is in an ideal location 4 mins walk to the strip and beach. It is a small hotel and although the pool is small there was only ever 6 or 7 people max in it at one time which included my family of 5. This was ideal for our kids who had the pool mostly to themselves. There are tiles around the pool that have become loose and unstable so you would expect these simple things to be dealt with but they never were. Staff: one girl with dark hair was nice at reception. 1 brown haired girl with better english in the restaurant and 1 dark haired guy at the bar early shift all very nice. Some of the cleaning staff were rude and unfriendly. We ran out of toilet rolls 1 day and when we approached them at there trolly to ask for some to take to our room you would have swore you asked them for 1000 lev. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the road out to the shop. The elevator up to it was not working properly and we were often stuck and had to prise open the doors. The room although spacious and basic was clean enough but not overly so. Dust under beds. The balcony table and chairs quite dirty and the floor of balcony as if it hadnt been cleaned in months, the shower hose kept breaking and the grid coming loose from the drain on the floor. Shower would also run extremely warm and then cold so you had to be careful that you werent scalded when turning the temp up. Otherwise the room was grand. Food what we got was good during the day. Pizzas chips, salads etc. Bar manager not friendly, disinterested. At times you felt scared to even approach him to ask for a drink. But maybe thats his personality. Breakfast extremely basic and if you werent down before 9 it was cold. I noticed one of the morning at 9.45a.m. the hotplates were switched off. I used the microwave to heat my beans and eggs. My kids wouldnt eat any of it and stopped coming down for breakfast. I saw one lady ordering pancakes one morning and so i made my kids come down the next day for breakfast and said id order them pancakes but was told the cook had no ingrediants so they never got any. On collecting my money from the safe the night of departure the receptionist told me she would have our sandwiches ready as we would be gone before breakfast. I was delighted and thought god this is great and so thoughtful although we had paid for our breakfast anyways. However on departure she advised me she had made a mistake and we wouldnt be getting any as we didnt order any it was another room 😟 and advised that we could have ordered them earlier- this should really be added to the welcome pack. On checkout the night porter checked our room and rang down to say one of the room towels were missing and did we have it as we would have to pay 50lev. We explained that it was hard enough packing our own belonging never mind hotel towels. Again we were not aware of any such policy. I never counted the towels that the cleaning staff left every 3 days but if i had of known that policy i would have been. Anyways here we are at 3a.m. our bus outside and me opening up 5 luggage cases to ask the staff to check if they didnt believe us. Nightmare and infuriating also embarressing. As a cheap, basic hotel this would do fine but these small customer service issues let it down a bagfull. Improvements to be made include staff friendliness and better english, better breakfasts, fix showers and better room cleanliness. If theres a towel missing, dont acuse the hotel guests of stealing it. I can get a towel at...

My partner and I are just back from here and what a great 10days we had. The hotel was lovely, rooms cleaned more than I expected, staff very friendly & welcoming, Antonia the waitress is just a sweetheart girl always greets you with a smile and will do anything to help... Bar staff are also lovely, i heard a few moan about valentine being sour faced but what people need to remember he is dealing with lots of different nationalities,he can speak & understand English (can you speak his language Bulgarian!!!) when you get to know him he's a lovely guy, also his son who is a lovely boy... i have to give Ivo a mention he's also a lovely guy, always happy, singing away his english is brilliant too both always greeted us with a smile and hello as did all the staff so no complaints whatsoever about the staff.... Food is good too, pizza & spaghetti bolognese was lovely.... There's and iron on each level of the hotel so no need to take one... We paid 40 lev to hire a kettle for 10 days.... Room was spacious and very clean.... There's no entertainment at the hotel but you can get that elsewhere, Beach and flower street within 5-10 min walk very busy but worth going to... Nesebar (old town) was gorgeous and a must visit, 15 lev each there and back by boat which can be found at the pier, however there is a bus you can get which costs 2 lev each.... This was our first time in Bulgaria and hotel karlovo we will definitely go back, cant wait to book for next year, the weather was amazing, temp in july didn't go below 29c the whole time we were there... OK I will start with the good, definitely good value for money good basic hotel. The rooms we're comfortable and a good size, staff were very nice and helpful. The things that could be improved upon, the breakfast left a lot to be desired I ate toast the whole week and when I say toast I mean warm bread as the toaster really didn't do much toasting. the "butter" they supply was not butter I recommend go and get some real butter from the nearby shop. The coffee was never warm and their was nothing covering the food for the hours that it sat out. The shower went from a nice temperature to boiling and then cold in a split second many times during one shower making it hard to get a good wash however the bathroom was kept spotless and plenty of loo roll was supplied. The TV was a little patchy kept cutting in and out but hey who goes on holiday to watch TV so we didn't mind much about that. The pool was so cold so it was hard to enjoy My one main complaint is that the staff appeared to have thrown a party one night for a staff members birthday and it was very hard to sleep as music was loud and the shouting went on for hours. I will end my review by saying I do think it is a nice place to stay not far from the beach and other thing to do, I believe it is good value for money and I would stay here again especially if these things were...
