Hotel Merkuriy — Hotel in Nesebar

Hotel is long overdue for overhaul. Do not be deceived, at its current state it looks nothing like pictures provided. Me an my girlfriend stayed there from 2023/09/09 to 2023/09/16 and 09/17 is the end of the season for them as far as I understand. We arrived at 12:00, check-in is at 14:00, we got our room at around 15:00. Room - beds broken and very uncomfortable, had to fix them at least three times and one night we just layed our mattresses on the floor and slept there, as the bed broke in the middle of the night. Main room light is just one bedside lamp hanging over the mirror, so the room is very dimly lit. One of the bedside lamp switches (just a piece of string that you pull) stopped working after turning it on, so I had to unscrew the light-bulb to turn the light on and off. When we arrived into our room there was only one blanket on two beds, we found another one in the room wardrobe, but it didn't have covers. Towels were not left on bed, but in bathroom, not sure if that's normal for a hotel. Balcony had two lawn chairs, but they were broken and fixed incorrectly making them uncomfortable to sit in. Bathroom has this abhorrent stench from the sewer, there is a floor drain that gets no water, so all the smell comes from down there. I filled it with water a few times and most of the smell dissapeared. Bath-shower combo has no curtain, so after every shower floor is covered in water. Shampoo-body wash combo liquid was closer to dish-washing liquid, so I had to buy my own. There are no individual mini-soaps, just one big tub of Shampoo-bodywash-dishwashing liquid and hand-soap liquid by the sink. Food - always cold, fried eggs had eggshells in them, boiled potatoes were always just taken out of a fridge - not even room temperature and often under-cooked. Only bananas, melons and watermelons were edible fruit, everything else was unripe and there was only one or two choices max at once, sometimes none at all. Had to resort to eating sandwiches with slightly dried up bread for the entire week as no other food was any good. There is a grill outside that sometimes has some warm food, but still - often under-cooked. Juice machine (juice powder, no actual fruits involved) often did not work, so only coffee or cheapest tea was available. Room service - I think I had 20 euro stolen from my wallet in my room by the cleaners. Cleaners come in at 10AM without knocking and just take out the trash - nothing else, no matter if you are sleeping. Had to complain to reception to get our towels changed. Pool - opens at 10:00 closes at 18:00, you can sit by the pool outside these hours, but not swim. Water was very cold, both me and my girlfriend got sick. Cleanliness - pillows were yellow and both me and my girlfriend got pink eye from them. Other amenities - Gym - closed, kids room - closed, massage rooms - closed, maybe because it was the end of the season or maybe because they just don't care. Football gate/basketball hoop does not exist. Snack bar - actually decent, 2-3 options, open 10:00 - 17:00, some food is made on order. Pizza, taco like sandwich, sweet corn and sweet buns are in rotation. Hot dogs, burgers and some other food was promised in the leaflet, but I never saw them in the week I stayed there. Bar(s) (2) - cheapest alcohol available, closes at 23:00. Location - pretty good, not seaside, but around 100 meters away from the heart of the city and the main tourist transport - little trains.

TL;DR - old, dirty, rundown place where no one cares about quality and no one should make the mistake of staying.

We stayed in this hotel from the 25th 2020 of August till the 30th. We really loved it. From the first look the hotel doesn’t seem very ok, because there are some shops around, some bars. You just see some balconies. But when you enter the territory (with a special card, it’s closed for others) the view changes. The territory is nice and small. Cozy.

First of all: the service is great ! The receptionist was so polite and helpful! They let us check in at 14:15 approximately ( but it was supposed to be 14:00) due to some misunderstanding with housemaid’s confirmation. They apologized with a bottle of champagne. We didn’t complain :) Staff was great as well. Second. Our room was cozy and clean. With a huge bed, a lot of place to put our belongings. There was a fridge, TV. The air conditioning worked good. The bath was clean, there were towels, they changed them every day. However the cleaning system was quite strange for me: they did it every day but didn’t clean the floor (there was some sand bcs of the beach). Third. The pool was okay as well. Half for children, half for adults. Near the pool there was a bar with cocktails which worked 10 am - 11 pm. Cocktails were quite good. There was also a lobby bar where u could get some drinks (champagne, coffee etc).

Fourth. FOOD: There was a good choice of everything : dishes, meat, some fish, even calamari and mussels, salads, sweets, fruit. I’d say - diverse. And it tasted good!

The system is well organized. Breakfast - 7:30 -10 am. Lunch - 12-2:30 pm. After 3 pm there were snacks in the bar near the swimming pool. At 6-9 pm there was dinner. No place for hunger :)

And finally: location. It was very close to the beach. I’d say 5 min and you are there. That’s even good that we had to walk a bit - we saw something interesting :) There was no noice heard from the outside when we stayed in our room. It was ok even though it’s close to the places with loud music. This hotel was made for calm vacation. I’d recommend it and I’d definitely...

Well... 5night here and i must say i enjoyed my stay...but that.s subjective.

The drinks are very bad. So...don.t expect much. But with a little research you can find something drinkable. I drinked white wine and vodka. The juices are horrible or just wat too diluted. I didn.t find real coffee anywhere. Inka ftw. 4/10 Food. Mediocre is the name. Not very many variants. A lot of sugar in everything. But... i ate from everything and i had no health related problems. They reuse a lot...but i don.t find that a problem. They serve a lot of icecream...that.s nice. 6/10 Pool. The pool is nice with free sunbeds and free towels. BUT...the water is cold as hell. Really cold. From 18:00PM you are not allowed to enter the pool anymore. 7/10 Bars. Interesting enogh...there is no pool bar. The complex itself is very small so walking to the "cocktail bar" it.s ok. At 11PM they close all the bars, including the lobby bar. The cocktails are obviously very bad. Rooms. The rooms are big and clean. The don.t really have rooms with view. My view was a strip club. I.m not even mad but you might not be ok with that. They clean the rooms daily. They have a tv...but is small and old (tube). Also...the most useless thing, a music player with cd player, radio and audio cassette player. Cool. 7/10 15bgn a day for parking. Very expensive but i found a free parking another place. Staff is friendly, nothing bad to say about them. 10/10 So... in other words. It s not horrible and it.s cheaper from other hotels. I don.t agree with their 4, i would go with 3. Go with no expectations and you.ll be fine. If you have more money tho... go to...
