3.5 star but I can’t put that rating here! So it’s 3 as 4 is too high.
Beachwalk's location at the quiet end of Long Set Beach is stunning, with a lovely chilled vibe, but the hotel overlooks the basics that make a great stay. The rooms were the worst I had in Cambodia during my 2.5 week trip (Siem Reap, PP, Kep, Kampot & Koh Rong), yet the most expensive by far! Cheap furniture, rickety bed, very poor craftsmanship (the tiling, grouting and walls in the bathroom were disgusting! - see photos), no water pressure on 2 nights, no hot water on 2 nights, and tiny, poor-quality towels and the cheapest toilet paper that you wouldn't give to your worst enemy. Curtains didn’t fit, the sink tap broke constantly, and I could hear everything from neighbouring rooms. Housekeeping ignored my "Do Not Disturb" sign twice, which I feel was a major breach of privacy. I've never had that in any hotel where they ignore your DND request. See photos for evidence. On the contrary, the best thing about the room was the aircon! Super powerful and cold, which I appreciated.
The beach location is beautiful, but the experience is frustrating—there’s no beachside service, so you have to keep walking back to the bar for drinks. They also don’t clean the beach properly; empty cups, bottles, and cigarette butts were left there for days. It’s odd that such a basic process isn’t in place. The back entrance by the mini golf (which is a waste of space and real estate in itself) was pitch black at night, making it unsafe. I tripped twice and it was so dark and unwelcoming. Adding lights in the trees would improve this significantly and is such an easy fix.
The food overall was decent, with helpful staff at breakfast and a few lunches and dinners I enjoyed. My only feedback is that the portions are too small for the price, which can leave you unsatisfied. I compared prices and quantity to other restaurants along the beach and each time, they were way under here. I mostly appreciated the music, but it was too loud at breakfast and the wrong playlist in the mornings. A more relaxed playlist with a beach bar or Café del Mar vibe would improve the atmosphere dramatically with minimal effort.
On the plus side, the pool, hammocks, and sun loungers make for a relaxing vibe, and the staff are mostly excellent. Huge shout out to one of the waiters Vichet (he was amazing!) and Sangha the Manager was also fantastic, as were Dara and the older lady at breakfast. However, one young woman in the restaurant was rude and unhelpful, which let the service down. She needs a lesson in customer service and showing a warm Cambodian smile, she lets the team down. I also liked the fact I could rent a moped for $15 a day to explore the island, that was great as they just added to my bill each day. You can also pay by card which is super handy, as there are no ATMs on the island...
Beachwalk could be great if they focused on getting the basics right—quality rooms, proper beach management / service, better quality guest / room amenities and more consistent service. Until then, it’s overpriced IMO and underwhelming, especially with newer, better properties opening nearby.
I feel like they have got complacent, simply because of the location (a beautiful plot on 4K Beach) with a nice pool and restaurant building. The problem is, the location is not unique to the hotel and you can tell over the next few years, other hotels and resorts will start popping up and overtake this. They have to focus on the core fundamentals of what a hotel is (a decent bed, reliable and hot shower, good night sleep etc.) then focus on the the rest of the experience. It feels like they are purely resting their laurels on the location / restaurant / pool and have forgotten everything else... maybe 3.5 star is a bit harsh, but honestly, it's all because of the awful room and quality in the room. It let it down that much IMO. How can a room like that be only 3 years old too? It makes no sense. Looks like it needs a...
Read moreMy family stayed at BeachWalk for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. We had a fantastic time! The visit was surprisingly good from start to finish. The fantastic staff who greeted us every day with happy faces. They have done a great job recruiting! It was easy to communicate as most of them spoke good English.
The beach was wonderful with its large and relaxing beach area, in our opinion the best on the island. Incredible sand and water, good sun loungers. We experienced that some sun loungers were taken by people who were not staying at the hotel.. Perhaps a solution could be that as a hotel guest, you can pick up mattresses for the sun loungers in the morning. Maybe at the new bar that is to be built on the beach.
One part of the beach was not used due to the lack of shade. Maybe you could build some beach pergolas with sunprotection there for the future.
The large pool was nice for the whole family. The kids enjoyed the holiday just as much as us adults and there were toys, water sports such as surfboards and mini golf for them. Looking forward to seeing how you will use the beach bar in the pool, perhaps as an ice cream/gelato bar?
The environment by the pool was nice and cozy with the lounge furnitures. Nice to hang out at during both day and night. We enjoyed dessert, ice cream and drinks. Would have liked there to be some icy shakes, like example icy coconut shakes, fruit shakes, chocolate shakes and oreo shakes with crushed ice. A small wish until we come back and stay at your hotel again! ;)
The restaurant served a very good breakfast where most of it was a la carte which we liked. Fresh and tasty selection where there was something for everyone. The fruit and juice selection could have been varied a bit.
The restaurant also had a wide range of food and was surprisingly good! The Christmas and New Year's dinner was not at the same level, but we appreciated their effort to set the table nicely on the beach. A few evenings there was live music and that was a positive feature! Pablo, was incredibly talented!
We often ate lunch and dinner at the hotel, but also tried other restaurants on the island and there were many places within walking distance. Other favorites were the Thai restaurant next to the hotel and a Turkish restaurant by the pier.
The rooms were clean, fresh, large and nice. Comfortable and large beds. We stayed in the rooms that had access to the garden. The cleaning staff did a very good job, you always came into a clean and freshly made room with nice smell of fragrance oil.
Small wishes: A luggage rack A dustpan for the patio Mosquito repellent Piece of chocolate in the minibar every day (our family is a candy lover).
A few days during the long weekends (christmas/new years), loud music was played further away on the beach. It might be a good idea to bring earplugs if you are bothered by that. But most nights there were no disturbing noises and we slept very well the whole stay.
The hotel had a masseuse who was fantastic! She was knowledgeable and gave incredibly good massages, we had massages almost every day. It was in a "hut" on the beach and it was lovely to hear the waves while getting a massage. We appreciated that it was fresh, nice towels and massage bench, quiet surroundings and it felt luxurious.
There was also a small outdoor gym which was good.
The hotel helped us book a day trip by car around the island. We ate at Lilly's (which was fantastic), got to explore other beaches, etc. We also got help with renting motorbikes one day.
One day we went on a boat trip where we fished and snorkeled. The boat ride was very fun and the staff were friendly. The snorkeling was nothing special (this was mainly due to the cloudy water as it was very windy the day before). We did see monkeys from a distance, which was fun.
We are already looking forward to coming back and recommend Beachwalk Hotel to everyone! A fantastic oasis, with an incredible beach and a...
Read moreWe had high expectations based on the reviews, but found the level of professionalism to be insufficient compared to the very high price (considering we are in Cambodia). We wouldn't complain about these points in a lower price category, but in this category we expected more. The location is undeniably beautiful, a tropical paradise. The hotel is situated on a fine, white sandy beach with crystal-clear water, and we also liked the facilities very much, although the rooms are rather simple than luxury, but very nice.
Some points which could be improved:
The service was mostly well-intentioned, but sometimes the staff seemed unable to think ahead or communicate with each other. For example, I arranged a private beach dinner for my girlfriend in advance via email as a surprise. I was very grateful for the suggestion of a beach dinner, and it was beautiful. But at check-in, the staff member who seemed to be responsible for guest requests mentioned that the decoration would cost something extra and that he would tell me later when my girlfriend wasn't there. Then later he suddenly said that it didn't cost extra. On the afternoon before the beach dinner, another staff member came to us and asked if we wanted to order what we would eat in the evening or later. I wonder what the point of that is, and so of course the surprise was ruined. Also, I asked beforehand if we could order the Christmas dinner at our beach dinner (it was 3 days before Christmas), and it was confirmed. When we had the dinner, it wasn't possible though. There are few to no vegan/vegetarian dishes for breakfast and else on the menu. Our simple request to have the overnight oats made with plant-based milk seemed to be an insurmountable task for the staff and was another example of strange communication. After several discussions and after the manager bought some soy milk, the task seemed to be accomplished. When we received the oats the next day, on the one hand they came just plain without the fruits that were mentioned on the menu, and after 2 minutes someone came to us and asked if we eat yoghurt, because they had mixed it in. It was kind of funny, but I just hope that doesn't happen to someone with allergies. Apparently the kitchen was not communicated what our request was about or there is no understanding of what vegan means. Another example we witnessed at breakfast buffet that the yoghurt was out at 9nish already and they didn’t come up with the idea to provide some milk instead but rather told everyone asking it’s out, so eat your cereal dry 😉 The sunbeds are very comfortable, however, the hotel does not take care of them, they are not cleaned or repositioned in the morning. Some beds were partly damaged and when we were there, a bed with a towel was "reserved" for 3 days, although nobody used it, which is unpleasant considering the limited number of beds. We were lucky to always get one, but that seemed not to be the case for everyone. In a resort of this class, I would expect a sufficient amount of sunbeds.
Apart from these points, we enjoyed our stay and found the staff friendly. We appreciated the little courtesy in the room for our...
