This is an excellent hotel and, after staying over the years in most of the chain hotels in Sudbury, this is the only place that I’ll stay in the future. I’m just sorry I didn’t come here sooner.
I had a room issue on my arrival, which some hotels might not take seriously, but for me it was a problem. The previous guest had clearly used a small grill to prepare some foul smelling food in in the room (I wish people wouldn’t do that). Undoubtedly, housekeeping had used a diffuser spray to remove the smell and expected that it would have worked but, from my perspective, it didn’t. So I sent an email to the hotel’s Manager, Jessica, and in this post-pandemic world of a widespread decline in customer service, I didn’t expect my issue to be taken seriously and I didn’t expect it to be resolved. However, that wasn’t the case at all. The response from Jessica was immediate and she made everything right, and she went far beyond what I ever could have expected. In fact, after years of travelling on business and for pleasure, I’ve never run across such an attentive and empathic General Manager.
Beyond that, everything about Travelway Inn was outstanding. Here a some of the reasons that this hotel should be the first choice for anyone staying in Sudbury:
on entering the hotel, the lobby is bright and welcoming. Counter staff were pleasant;
the room I ended up in was very clean, including hidden spots that most housekeeping staff in other hotels miss. It was roomy and the beds were comfortable;
parking was more than adequate;
the outside grounds were immaculately kept and beautiful;
the hot breakfast buffet, included in the price of the room, had fresh food that was continuously restocked by a very pleasant restaurant attendant, who always greeted us with a warm and genuine hello and goodbye; and
Travelway’s location is central to much of what Sudbury has to offer, and it’s the closest hotel to Laurentian Hospital, Laurentian University, Science North, and Laurentian Conservation area. In fact, Travelway is so close to the hospital and Science North that there’s no need to drive and pay their parking fees. The hotel does not charge for parking.
I’m sure there are things I’ve missed in this review, but Travelway is the place I’ll stay in all my future Sudbury visits.
And again, a big thank you to Jessica for all your help and for being so understanding of the issue I had, and for fully correcting...
Read moreWarning to all who stay at this hotel. Do not leave any personal belongings, jewelry, or cash in a room unattended, as it may be stolen by the time you get back. Cash was stolen from my wallet. My family and I had booked two rooms for about a week by the time of the incident. I last saw my $100 bill in my wallet located in my room on Friday evening. However, when we were checking out on Sunday afternoon, the bill was missing. My wallet had never left the room between Friday and Sunday, and doors were locked at all times. This could only mean a housekeeper or staff member must have went through my belongings while we were gone. I reported it to the assistant manager, who shrugged it off like it was not their fault. They refused to open up an investigation, as they said they have never experienced an issue such as this with their staff before. It has now been 4 days with no action taken. The stingy staff member continues to work there. UPDATE: I have still not recieved confirmation that an investigation has started. When this happened, I asked for a copy of the investigation which they refused to give to me. Supposedly they started one (according to the owners response) but I’m assuming they have still not resolved this conflict 8...
Read moreBooked for 2 nights for medical reason was told upon booking could cancel either night by 4 pm as unsure if needed 2 night stay. Was told this on phone and also at check in. Did not require 2nd night and at 1:30 returned to hotel from hospital and checked out. However was told had to have checked out by 11am as room was not cleaned in time. Of course I argued my case as I was told different when booking. Cleaning staff were outside our door and said would clean room, went back to desk and they refused refund for 2nd night. Had to pay $100 for day fee which was for 11am - 1:30. Front desk said I had to check out in morning and ask to hold room if we required it still upon returning from hospital. That was not what I was told from 2 different employees. Check in time is 4pm, check out 11am. Unfortunately had to pay $295 for one night. I feel that the staff misinformed me and didn't care at all. On a positive note room was clean and conveniently located to hospital. Don't drink the coffee yuck! Also not sound proof at all could hear everything in adjoining room which was...
