This hotel while it was an older hotel was very nice. When I hadnât arrived by 10 PM the hotel called to verify that I was still going to be arriving. My flights had been delayed about six hours so I let them know that I would be arriving sometime around midnight. There was someone available in the lobby to check me in, he was a bit cranky, but given the time,it was to be expected. Taking the elevator to the second floor once the door opens the immediate area is very nice it had a small table with some decorations and two chairs; the hall to my room was a little narrow (but being built in 1870 thatâs to be expected), but very quiet. Upon entering my room it was quite large and it looked like it had just been redone. The queen size bed was very nice and also very comfortable. Also in the room was a chair with a reading light, and a small side table, dresser with a nice size television and a nice bench at the foot of the bed that you could sit on and put your shoes on or you could lay your clothes out on and there was a luggage rack that was great for putting your suitcase to get stuff out of your suitcase without it having to be on the floor or in a closet. The bathroom was a bit on the small side but it was really nice. The shower was just a low step in which was great for someone that had mobility issues, or trouble stepping into a tub. There was body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in large bottles that were fixed to the wall, it was great having those so you didnât have to bring them with you and since I had forgotten mine I was glad they were there. The only thing I was missing was some lotion which wouldâve been nice to have some as a courtesy. There were also plenty of places to plug in a phone charger and they were easy to get to, which was also very nice since typically in a hotel room the places to plug chargers in are not easy to get to at all.||Due to some mobility issues, I had rented a scooter, as did some of my friends, to get around the city with because the activities we were going to be doing required quite a bit of walking; each evening we brought our scooters back and we stored them down near the gym in a room where we were able to hook them up for charging. The next morning, we would take the elevator down and we would get our scooters and bring them back up and go about our day. It was very convenient and very nice that the hotel was able to accommodate us. Some of us could also take them into our rooms because the room was big enough. It was a little tricky getting them into the room because the turn radius was a little bit tight but in a pinch, we were able to get them into the room||The first full day in Quebec I went to the restaurant Les Mordus in the hotel and had a late lunch/early dinner; the BLT burger and French fries were very good. I thought since the later meal was good I would try the breakfast the next morning. I have to say breakfast was a huge disappointment, I did NOT get what I ordered and I pointed out to him on the menu. Unfortunately the young man didnât understand English very well and I donât understand French at all. What I ordered was the single egg eggs Benedict what I got was something that had pulled ham, a sausage, a salad and a poached egg and some type of potatoes. The potatoes were good. The ham was tasty. The white of the poached egg was not cooked all of the way. The sausage was not to my liking at all. I donât like sausage and the little bit of greens that was salad was not tasty at all. After my order was taken I never saw my server again until I tracked him down to get and pay my check; my food was delivered by someone other than my server.||The bill was written in French which I donât read/understand so I was asking him what went in each of the lines and he read them back to me in French, which I still didnât understand; he wasnât able to convey the information in English.||Overall my stay here was good and I would stay here again, but I would steer clear of Les Modus, there are tons of restaurants...
Read moreI came to QC to celebrate my Momâs 77th birthday. She has had a very hard last year after losing her husband of 51 years. I was enjoying staying at the hotel until the morning of what I thought was my second to last night. Unfortunately, when booking the room we made a mistake and we were one night short. Upon checking-in, this went unnoticed even though I discussed my checkout date during the process. I also did not get a notification the night prior either, like most hotels do. But I understand this was MY mistake. What I do NOT appreciate is how it was handled. I was first made aware of this by housekeeping, who knocked on our door to scold us about being in the room past check out time. I was very surprised, as I thought we were leaving the next morning. This was followed by an immediate call from the front desk on the same tone. I went to the front desk with my Mother who has problems walking, uses a cane and had fallen 2 days before. There is only one person at the front desk who was on the phone. She did not make eye contact with me. Not even a hand gesture to acknowledge my presence. Then, I met Marilène Fortin, one or the âmanagersâ. She has to be one of the coldest, least compassionate human beings on the planet. She said the hotel was fully booked and offered no other option other than leaving. She actually said: âwhat do want me to do, cancel someone elseâs reservation?â. That is certainly not what I was asking for nor a professional way to speak to anyone. I tried to explain my situation, including the inconvenience of moving my elderly mother, who was injured, to a different hotel. She never acknowledged this comment. Never asked if my Mother was ok, if it occurred at the hotel or not, if she needed any medical assistance. Nothing. She simply chose to ignore my words. She did tell me she was going to give me an hour to pack our room and offered to give me a list of hotels in the area. I was obviously upset, feeling like a bag of trash you want to toss. I told her I needed time to cool off and think about my options. I ended up booking a room at different hotel. When I went back to our room to pack, the key had been disabled. After Marilène told me I had time to pack our things, we were denied access to our belongings. WOW! I was lucky enough to find a different housekeeper who gave us access. I packed both of our suitcases and left the room. When I went back to the front desk, there was a third person that I had not met before. When I tried to explain what was going on, the first lady (the one on the phone that ignored me) starts filling her in in French. I asked them to speak in English as this a conversation about me. But I had to ask several times because they refused to switch languages. Marilène Fortin comes back. I told her we were leaving and complained about not being able to access the room. Her response was âthat happens automaticallyâ. Not once she said, sorry for the inconvenience or had even a kind word to make the situation a bit better. I was also not given the list of hotels she offered. It was like dealing with a robot whose only mission was to make us go away. I am a professional woman (physician) and was certainly not looking for anything other than help with an unfortunate situation. It was a mistake on our end (overlooked at check in as well), but it was handled HORRIBLY. I donât think Marilène should really be working in hospitality. There is nothing hospitable about her. She lacks leadership, has very poor communication skills, she is unable to find/offer solutions, and the minuscule help offered, she did not deliver. I really hope that no-one has to deal with such lack of empathy while being away from home, caring for an injured...
Read moreHotel Clarendon and its staff are excellent! We would definitely stay here again when we are next in Quebec City! It is in a wonderful location in the historic and beautiful âOld Townâ, and the Hotel is very comfortable, quiet and safe. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Clarendon for 3 nights in October 2024. Upon our arrival, we were greeted at Reception in a friendly and efficient manner by a lovely young lady called Caelum (on Saturday 12th October 2024). We booked our last two nights (of a total of 3 nights) at Hotel Clarendon in a bigger Executive King room number 717. We stayed in small-ish room (but still very comfortable, modern and well-appointed) Room 320 on our first night (Saturday night 12/10/24). Then on Sunday 13th, the wonderful Eva (at Reception) saw me after I spoke with her about us booking a larger room (if available) for the remaining nights of our stay. Eva changed our room to No. 717, which was much bigger than 320, and suited us better due to the large amount of luggage we had. Room 717 was also extremely comfortable, quiet, modern, great bed and shower, well appointed, and had a lovely view from the window. We will ask for Room 717 next time we stay. Eva was outstanding! Alex (a male at Reception area) and Rebecca (on check out on the morning of October 15 ) were also very pleasant, efficient and good at their jobs! The downstairs MORDUS Brasserie Du Coin was also a great place to have a drink after a day or night out exploring the Old Town, and to dine at breakfast and/or dinner. The food was delicious and there was a wide selection of dishes. The Brasserie staff were attentive as well as pleasant and efficient. My wife and I highly recommend Hotel Clarendon!
