The food and drink order was taken very quickly. We ordered our appetizers and entrees at the same time. When the appetizers came the server brought the scotch egg, an order of calamari and two orders of the cauliflower. We corrected the server because we actually ordered two of the calamari and only one of the cauliflower. He appeared irritated, saying he misheard the order, we asked him to exchange the cauliflower for the calamari. He abruptly picked up the extra order of cauliflower and left the table. About ten minutes later another server delivered our calamari. Our server never returned to do a table check. We were all out of drinks for another ten minutes before we flagged down another server to order another round. Our server passed our table many times but never acknowledged us. After a full 55 minutes after we initially placed our food order, we decided to cancel our entrees, pay for what we ate and drank and leave. Again we had to ask 2 other servers to locate our server so we could settle up and leave. It was when he brought the bill that he told us “the food is up if we wanted it”. We declined. This level of service was likely not indicative of the kind of service you would get at this restaurant. During our time there we saw several tables order drinks, get and finish their full meal and leave all while we were waiting for ours. I believe our server was upset at the mistake he made, even though it didn’t bother us at all. It could have been easily fixed with a quick apology and replacement, instead he seemed to take it personally as he never returned to the table and seemed to have forgotten about our entrees entirely. We will say however, the scotch egg was delicious and the cauliflower was very fresh...
Read moreWe were in Quebec City from May 29-June 2. May 29 we had a couple of drinks sitting at the bar. The bartender was great, and we enjoyed chatting with fellow patrons. The next day, May 30, we had eaten already, but stopped in for a drink at 5:50 pm. The bar was full and the hostess directed us to the bar in the other room. We sat there until 6:05 pm with no one coming in the room to serve us. 2 women looking to order dinner handed us their menus and walked out, citing the lack of service. We followed behind them! The hostess said thank you and goodnight to us as we were leaving! I told her she had seated us 15 minutes earlier and there was no service! The next afternoon, June 1, we stopped in, and once again the bar was full! My husband went to sit at one of the tables by the bar, and the hostess said we couldn't sit there for a drink....so we left. It was mid afternoon! We stopped in again on June 1! A wonderful experience! The bartender behind the bar and one of the servers were amazing finding a championship soccer game for my husband, and the service was great! Line came in for her shift behind the bar, and I just watched her in amazement as she prepped for her shift! What a work ethic! We moved from the bar to a window table for our dinner. Nancy was friendly and very proficient in her job! Once again a wonderful experience! The food was great! Glad we gave D'Orsay another chance after two...
Read moreWe found D'Orsay while looking for a restaurant that had Escargot, Mussels, and a kids menu (a seemingly challenging combination to find in Quebec City). As a plus, it also had a good beer selection, primarily from Unibroue and Boréale.
Escargots au gratin were delicious, $5 upcharge for cheese was well worth it. Perfectly cooked in delicious butter topped with broiled cheese.
For the mains, we had Mussels & Fries, one with Bleu Cheese, and one Provençale style. We each got a large pot of fresh and tender mussels with piping hot fries. Sauces were delicious (Provençale was heavy on garlic - a plus from my perspective), and Bleu cheese paired well with a Boréale NEIPA to offset the richness, while the Provençale paired perfectly with Unibroue's La Fun Du Monde. Best mussels I've had in years.
Kids meal was either a half portion of pasta or chicken tenders. Kid ordered the tenders and fries, and both were solid. BBQ sauce served with the chicken was very good.
For dessert, we ordered the Maple Pie, and the kid meal dessert was a chocolate cake/brownie style cube. Maple Pie was the table favorite.
Service was perfectly timed (we arrived before the rush started) and our server and the bartender were both friendly and knowledgeable.
If I come back to Quebec City, I'm eating here again. After eating here tonight, it's clear how this restaurant has managed to stay relevant over the nearly 50 years...
