We had to leave our condo while workman came for two days. I am a Marriott Gold member and used points to secure the rooms. This was the lowest point hotel in Edmonton for me and, given it wasn't a holiday I decided to try it out.
To begin, upon entering the hotel I was greeted by a professional looking, front-desk employee, Amanda who answered all my questions and was very impressive - I was made to feel like my business was important to them as was I personally! not always the case.
We decided to try the pub located onsite as the restaurant is temporarily closed for renos. All I can say is this pub is a hidden treasure. Our server, Emily was quick, responsive, knowledgeable, and professional while being personable. Our food was delivered quickly and, I have to say the cook who prepared it, Allison did an amazing job with everything and, in particular my fish and chips. This year my husband and I have been in Victoria, Halifax and a Michelin star restaurant in Los Angeles and I tried the fish and chips in each location. To my delight, this pub served me the best fish and chips I have had in years!! There is a breakfast buffet for those who want it from 6 am to 10 am. Very convenient and worth the $10.00 they charge.
Although the decor is dated and the ambiance is not what you would call family or romantic, it is clean, and comfortable. There is a partition between the tables and the bar and slot machines. Not sure if kids are allowed.
I am a wheelchair user and usually have trouble pulling in under tables in restaurants. The tables with the square bottom pedestals was easy for me to roll up on (1/4" high) and I could sit right up to the table. Nice change - no more spilling food on my lap. The accessible room we have is a king bed with roll-in shower that has a bath stool. the sink is easy to roll under and access the lever tap. The toilet has the "L" bar that makes it safe to transfer - note there is not room beside the toilet so a front transfer is necessary. There is even a bathroom heater you can select 15 mins to 60 mins. This is great for anyone is gets chilled easily.
The room has carpet in all but the entry and bathroom but easy to roll around with plenty of space and a large desk with convenient plugins.
The pub and the breakfast area are wheelchair accessible as will be the restaurant as it is on the main level.
All in all, a fine place with amazing staff and good food. We will be back and hopefully the East 76 Restaurant will live up to the rest...
Read moreWow, Not in a good way. That is the only word I can come up with for this stay, My husband and I show up at the hotel and even as a gold preferred guest we are put on the first floor. This was not the end of the world until we tried to get to our room and had to climb 5 steps to get to our room. We had a full cart of luggage 4pcs plus several smaller bags as well as a baby in a stroller. Nobody at the front desk could even be bothered to tell me that while I stood there with my luggage waiting for my husband to park the truck. We then had to get to the end of the hallway with all our stuff just to reach the most dated room we have ever stayed in with an SPG property. Then we have to look forword to hauling all our stuff back out with no luggage cart. The bathroom was so small we had to stand over the toilet to close the door. The bathroom was in horrible shape chips on all surfaces. The countertop looks like it may have been reused out of a crack house, No door to seperate the bedroom as well as it was open above, Might as well have been a studio suite. Just to top our night off the bed squeaked everytime we moved in it. Our cups in the bathroom had been opened by someone. Leaving question as to how sanitary they were. One coffee in the room. The price for this room was also way too high for the quality. We often have rooms for $20 more a night that blow this one away . In size and ammenities. I can not believe that this is a category 3 hotel. That is an insult to other category 3 SPG properties. Lucky if it makes a category 2 should be a 1. When we brought up our concerns to the front desk staff we were just given a sorry and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Even though we checked out a night early this did not seem to matter. We will never be back to this property. Also one of only 3 properties not to participate in the better by the nights program in Canada. Wish we had known that before we booked, Seems like they want the benifits of being a SPG property without having to give the benefits to members. Spend your money elsewhere if you want...
Read moreAfter some years of not staying at this hotel I decided to give it a second chance since I was doing some business close in that area of Edmonton. In some aspects I was surprised about the changes that were done at the hotel, but in many others there is still a chance to improve. The pros: The rooms have been refurbished in their interiors to a more updated furniture and décor, more at the standard of newer Four Points hotels. Common areas such as lobby, meeting rooms, restaurants and health club are kept in spotless conditions. The Duke of Argyll Pub offered a good menu, tasty drinks with a friendly atmosphere that included live music. Thumbs up for it. I really appreciate the upgrade received on my room, It really made a difference in comfort since my partner was watching T.V. in the living room and I was sleeping. Areas of improvement: Steam Room and Sauna were both out of operation (a disappointment) The business center located at the 5th floor is just a sign that hasn't been removed yet. Some décor and carpets in the hallways and main areas are showing their age and they contrast with the new furniture and improvements done around the hotel. The morning Coffee service was unattended and therefore supplies run out fast without being replenished (on both mornings we have to ask at the restaurant for a cup of coffee). And the one that needs more attention is the training of the front desk staff. The were not paying enough attention to details in the reservation such as special fares, SPG level benefits, and proper procedures to close the guest folios in order to get the starpoints and stay credits added to the account. This hotel has a good location, but I hope they keep in mind that there are two more newer Four Points not so far from them, as well as two more coming up in...
