We stayed at this guesthouse recently. It was good value for a room, which at $30 per night was not a bad room. We found the owner, a female in her 50;s, to be somewhat uptight and rude. The showers were grungy and we refused to use them. There seemed to be a number of transient people living there and one young guy suddenly walked into the kitchen around 3pm in his pjs looking like a recovering druggie. He was walking around barefoot on a dirty floor. The owner requested we take off our shoes when in her house yet the floors were dirty and the bathroom floors were often strewn with dirty towels and had puddles of water on it. Breakfast is included in the room cost and it is a do it yourself pancake breakfast and she provides the coffee. We stayed for a couple of nights and we checked out early in the evening as we had to catch a late night bus. She charged us $5 to hang around her house and use the facilities. She gave us a lift to the bus depot and after we were in her van, she made some lewd comments such as that life is short, we should enjoy it as much as possible and that we "should masturbate", eat a steak, run around in the nude, etc. We found some of these comments really out of line and strange. She also called all of us the "vagina" girls, whatever that means. We do not know. This place was not bad until she made the comments and we won't stay there...

I cannot say enough good things about this hostel or its owner, Gail. I called about 6pm the night we were coming in (me, my husband and our 3 young kids) to see if they have a private family sized room and of it was ok we'd be coming in well after midnight. Gail said absolutely and that while she wouldn't be up that late she'd leave us a note with everything we needed to know. We got in about 2:30am!! ||In the morning we paid for 2 nights and went out to explore Thunder Bay. There's plenty to see and do and this guesthouse is in the heart of town. Walking distance from great coffee shops, restaurants, bakery and the marina park.||We ended up staying an additional night. ||Gail is so kind and hospitable. It's more like staying with an old friend! The other guests were super nice and the whole vibe was great!||If we ever make it back to Thunder Bay we will ABSOLUTELY stay...

On paye.
