First time in my life, Marriott has been an immensely unpleasant experience. My booking was made by American Express Global Business Travel which is the official vendor for all booking arrangements for government of Canada. I was asked by the receptionist Lance/Lanse to present government id/employer id, which I did not have with me, and honestly for the last 8 years of my work related travel, I have never been asked for government Id, I only show my drivers license to establish that it’s the person for whom the booking is made.
Anyways, the conversation goes as follows; I indicated that I do not have government Id with me right now but I can show you my official government email, booking confirmation etc., and i expressed that I have never been asked to present a government id, to which, he flew a paper in front of me indicating that it has all the rules and for government discounts we need to validate the government/employer id. I said well I don’t have it, I can send you an email from my official government email address to establish I work for the government.
I still acknowledged that it’s possible that you are right and my understanding may be completely wrong and I am required to present and carry a government id upon checking in in a hotel but I have never been asked about it except my drivers license. Lanse got agitated and responded alluding at the instruction papers so what’s here does not mean anything to you? He added that I am Not trying to be difficult here but I must verify your government id. I responded can you please show me where it says on your instructions paper that you must ask for government id so now he started looking up down left right next page but could not find that instruction and then told me that he will check me in.
All this to say that there is a better way to communicate, the choice of words, the behaviour, intonation patterns, you are not working in law enforcement but hospitality industry so words such as I am not trying to be difficult, what’s here does not mean anything to you? Where is it all coming from!
Upon checking in, I wanted to add this reservation in the app for rewards, would not have taken 15 seconds that I started searching for the Marriott app on my phone (I already have it installed on my phone so I was just locating it) and Lanse said do you wanna call me from your room when you have found the app? There was not even another single another customer there that I could give him benefit of doubt that he was in rush to check in others.
A very very bad attitude, no compassion, no courtesy, no politeness. Will never ever stay at this...
Read moreWe stayed for several nights in two rooms August 3 - Aug 10 The staff was very gracious and helpful and the facility was clean. However, this was supposed to be a restful and rejuvenating vacation for all 5 of us/ 2 rooms. During our stay we were dismayed that we had construction noises: drills and hammers waking us up and preventing sleep during our stay. We understand that renovations are necessary, the well-worn carpeting of our room indicated that upgrades were long overdue. While staff mentioned that work would be conducted at the hotel at checked-in, we were not advised prior to making our reservations and we believe we should have been situated farther away from the rooms being renovated. Instead, it was as if the drills and hammers were just above our heads, especially on the weekday morning portions of our stay. In addition, we expected to use the pool and gym daily, for exercise and to entertain our children, but it was a 2 mile walk from the facility, and thus we only used the gym/pool facility once during our entire stay since it was far and consumed valuable vacation touring time to go there and return. Our final shuttle to the airport was without air conditioning - the driver did his best to have it function but could not get it to function. We expected a high quality Marriott stay that we have experienced at your other facilities, especially at the prices we paid, which were charged at the customary Marriott price level, not a deeply discounted to account for noise, inconvenience and disruption of leisure and pleasure. The same gentleman performed check in and check out. He was pleasant, polite, friendly and took time to acknowledge us. There were fresh apples at the desk daily for part of the day and flavored water was refreshing. When we needed shuttle information and finding the gym/ pool at an alternative location due to renovations the staff were very helpful and coordinated us going to one facility off site instead of two. We were given business cards to keep with us in case we needed hotel assistance - this was very handy for using with transportation ie. uber. When we were accidentally locked out of the room the staff assisted us quickly and efficiently. We were given plenty of towels & coffee to meet the needs of the occupants of the room. The cleaning staff did an excellent job - our rooms were cleaned and well stocked and we never felt rushed to leave the room, they accommodated our leaving &...
Read moreTransiting from Europe to U.S. so stayed over at this hotel. Close to the airport so shuttle travel time is predictable. Pleasantly spacious lobby with a large lounge area attached (used for the breakfast in the morning and as a bar/bistro in the evening). Pool and fitness center were closed due to a remodel so could not use.
Had a room with two double beds on the fifth floor. Room is spacious, although the interior is dated. Minifridge and microwave are provided. Bath/toilet area is large but very spartan. Good sized sink with lots of space to lay out toiletries. Small coffee maker provided. Beds were a little soft, not as bad as many hotels. Very quiet room; we never heard airplane noise nor our neighbors. A/C worked well and wasn't too loud.
Rate included breakfast, but we had to leave for the airport before the buffet was open. Bistro (located in the lounge/reception area) is open for dinner, but has very limited food choices, so we chose to find dinner elsewhere. There is a menu for the Bistro in the room, but it is so limited I first thought that part of the menu was missing. No prices are shown, you have to go downstairs to the Bistro to see.
Neighborhood around the hotel is mostly other hotels and very uniform eating choices (almost all were steakhouses ???). Other food choices were not within easy walking distance. No convenience stores within easy walking distance either. The area around the hotel is not very attractive; the sidewalks are broken up and don't always connect; it feels like the city started construction and just quit without finishing the project. Although the hotel has some landscaping, the neighborhood around it feels like it is all boring buildings, concrete and asphalt and weeds. I'm not saying it is unsafe, just unattractive. From previous trips, this is how the entire area around the airport looks, so it isn't unique to this hotel location.
Bus service in the area is by the city of MIssasagua, not very tourist friendly--must have exact change in Canadian currency, can't buy bus tickets in the airport. So if you are transiting, you basically stuck at the hotel.
Staff was friendly...
