I have been on tour teaching classes in different cities in the U.S. almost every month of 2023. All except 2 stops, my events were at Marriott hotels and I didn't have any problems. However, this is one Marriott I will not do business with again. I don't know if it is because it is in Canada, but the customer service, hotel experience and event experience are all way below the standards of Marriotts in the states.
Let's start with the hotel and customer service experience: Toronto Marriott, like most, have a morning breakfast. However, I have not stayed at one that cards you at the breakfast entryway. They actually have a person standing there asking to see your room key before you can enter, even just to get a cup of coffee. This is so off-putting and in poor taste.
The staff at the front desk always acts completely clueless when asked a question and it seems as though it is everyone's first day at work.
I had a 2 day event in their grand room. Which in no way reflected a grand room. I paid $36 CAD per person for lunch the first day and there was not enough food provided for my guests, so my staff and I had to order Door Dash. The sales rep for my event offered me no compensation or partial refund for not having enough food for my guests and the quality was way below Marriott standards in the states.
The second day of my event I woke up to several thousands of dollars being held on my account. The front desk could not explain or help me and when I went to the sales rep for the event she stated that the front desk had mistakenly charged two rooms of my event guests stays to my card. I had no access to these funds again until I returned to the states.
Enough food was provided the second day and again was not worth the per person charge. I had a deli option and they provide a piece a turkey, a piece a ice berg lettuce and piece a cheese on white sandwich bread to my guests. Such a poor presentation and poor quality of food for the price they charge per person. Just another disappointed.
All this being said. Save yourself your time, your money, and the stress of staying here and definitely do not have your event here. You and your guests will be...
Read moreThis hotel has the nicest group of hotel staff I've ever encountered. I went and paid a visit to other hotels in the area during a 2.5 week stay and what impressed me about the Residence Inn, immediately, was the greeting I got as soon as I entered the lobby. And this kind of hospitality extended well beyond the front desk. My first impression of the hotel was homey, and being an extended stay hotel, they did a great job of making me feel at home there. I enjoyed my suite and its amenities (stove/oven/full-size fridge) and a bed (and pillow) I could fall asleep in, the first night! The complimentary breakfast was decent, my favourites being the bacon, and the coffee! And if you appreciate a good night's sleep, I found it very sound-proof. The hotel was full yet I may as well have occupied that floor by myself! But the most important thing to me has to be the staff and how personable they ALL were. There is a really nice vibe at this hotel and I even noticed their warm interaction with each other when they thought I wasn't paying attention. In summary, my last morning was bittersweet...happy to get back home but sad to leave such a wonderful group of people and a very well-maintained hotel (that felt more like home). I miss everyone there and wish I'd gotten everyone's names. Many thanks to Sonal, Aneta, Spiros, Simone, Mercedes, Justin, Abeer, Anan, Oscar, Carol, Cecelia, Elizabeth and the rest of the staff who took the time to say hello, share a laugh, and check on my well-being during my stay. If there is a downside, it would be the need to have a car if you plan to cook meals in your room. There isn't a grocery store within walking distance, but for a short stay, there are several restaurants within easy walking distance, near the hotel, plus there are soups and tv-type dinners available when you don't feel like going out. And I, personally, was happy with the complimentary food served up on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Free food always appeals to me. :) I'll be going...
Read moreI have stayed at the following Residence Inn a number of times over the last 6 months, and I have to say it has been a pleasure every time. The hotel and rooms are clean, nearly spotlessly so. The staff is friendly, helpful and will try to accommodate any reasonable request. In the few instances when the could not help (i.e. to borrow a lint brush, blender/magic bullet) there disappointment in not being able to accommodate was sincere.
The included breakfast is good and wholesome, which includes most of the traditional items one would like to have. Including a self-serve mini waffle maker for the pleasure of both children both young and young at heart. For those staying there for multiple days they do vary the "hot" items such as eggs, sausages, etc... every day to prevent boredom.
Every room A kitchenette, which is decently supplied and comes with a small table. ++ In larger rooms the table is obviously larger to be able to accommodate more guests. A living room with a couch, coffee table and TV ++ Some of the larger rooms have an electric/gas fireplace A separate sleeping area (2 in the case of rooms with two beds) Each room has its own bathroom where the toilet/bath/shower that is separated from the sink. A much appreciated feature. A working desk, which in some rooms is actually in the bedroom.
Things that I would improved if I would have the opportunity to design the hotel, would be the tweak the layout and update decor. That being said the rooms are clean and well provisioned for the most part. In some of the single suite rooms, the separate bedroom is a bit small making it difficult to access the drawers of the bureau.
Besides a few minor inconviences such as the parking lot being full and having to park across the street on occassion, I would have to say that the overall experience has been great and I will return here in the...
