I arrived at this hotel very visibly tense and apprehensive after having checked the reviews just the day before. Looking at the cracked and almost deserted parking lot, the faded paint and water marks on the exterior, a cracked window fixed with tape and a crackhead staring at my family from his outside door, topless and with his pants dangerously low, I was very much ready to go back to Montreal ON FOOT.
Tho I was ready to lower my standards to basement level, the thing I was the most worried about was the bed bugs allegations. I was trying to stay a bit hopeful by pointing out that although a lot of people claimed the hotel had a bed bug infestation, not a single one of them thought to upload pictures of said infestation.
With all that said, our rooms were as clean as can be (outside of the pet hair at the bottom of the bed frames). Not a single hint of bed bugs. In fact, there were no bugs of any kind in the entire hotel. Not even webs or exoskeletons. The shower was definitely a puzzle to solve but it ultimately worked just fine. Although the channels were mixed up, there were more than I've seen in even 5 star hotels and the TV worked just as well. Yes we struggled a lot with the doors but with a little intuition, resourcefulness and observation, we managed just fine. The breakfast was actually great and the staff was actually nice. The heater in one of the rooms was definitely out of heating agent but you'd have to have zero observation skills to not find the thermostat. The walls are as paper thin as any hotel I've ever been to (even the highest rated). The problem is people allowing their kids to run and scream in the halls at night and people screaming to each other near their door. As for the smell? There was none until someone decided to drag their cigarette smoke inside.
This is definitely the worst hotel I've ever been to (it needs quite a bit of renovation) but it's not nearly as bad as people describe it. Considering the fact that Trois-Rivières (or at least this side of it) is about as fancy and picturesque as MHM in Montreal, I'm not sure what people expected. As someone said, I think the hotel's staff is doing their best with what they have. And to that I'll add: I think the problem is not the hotel, but the people checking in. (Sorry the pictures are blurry, I screenshot them from a...
Read moreWow this place doesn’t deserve a star - unless having a door and running water is the bar for getting one. Where do I start? Cost over $220 for one night, was one of the only available dog friendly hotels this long weekend. Booked on the phone was told the room was booked and dog was noted. Pulled up to a very seedy looking hotel in an industrial area. Checking, in the person at the counter said oh don’t think we have a room available for you because you have a dog - REALLY???- She sorted it out after I explained I had already arranged it at time of booking and she could see I wasn’t pleased. There was also a guy slouched in a chair behind the counter with his legs spread like he was in his living room - he just sat there looking annoyed the whole time. Both were not friendly in the least and lacked basic people skills - but I’ll forgive them as it’s not a good place and likely not a good working environment. The room; Front door digital lock worked but the door jam itself looked like someone had previously attempted to kick it in and the deadbolt catch was off so couldn’t use the deadbolt. First thing you notice is that the air is damp and the room is barely tolerable - yes that’s right the a/c barely works and as a bonus is very loud and blows the dirty curtains up - had to put a lamp in front of them to keep them down…. Next is the old rotting filthy carpet - just keep your shoes on and take them off only when getting on the old lumpy bed with the old lumpy and uncomfortable pillows. The toilet had a loose handle and would not stop flushing unless you messed with the handle (guess that’s better than not being able to flush). To top it off I woke up to a horrid acrid stench like rotten eggs or sulfur at 4am - probably coming from the factory across the street. Decided at that point I’d had enough and we packed up and left. I will never stay at a Wyndham hotel again - they should close...
