I am deeply disappointed with the service my mother received at Chalet Continental Motel during her recent stay. She is a senior citizen who was forced to evacuate from Jasper due to a wildfire. As soon as the evacuation announcement came out at 10 PM, I started calling hotels in Valemount to ensure she had a place to stay. Chalet Continental Motel was the first hotel that had availability, and online it showed rooms for $179.
When I spoke to the gentleman at the front desk, he took the reservation and asked about her arrival time. I explained she was evacuating and her arrival would depend on the traffic, which, under normal conditions, would take a little over an hour. Due to the evacuation traffic, it took my mom four hours to get there. During this time, the front desk staff called me, irritated that it was taking so long.
When my mom finally arrived, the staff member seemed hesitant to give her a room. He reluctantly handed over the key. The following morning, at checkout, he attempted to charge her $300 for the room. When my mom pointed out that the posted rate was $179, he grudgingly reduced it to $250.
I am appalled by the lack of compassion and decency shown by the staff at Chalet Continental Motel during such a stressful and challenging time. Evacuees, especially senior citizens, should be treated with kindness and understanding, not taken...
Read moreThe owners were so friendly and down-to-earth. They were a pleasure to meet. They looked so happy and peaceful all the time and they genuinely cared about their guests. The views are breathtaking. Valemount is such a cute little town. It can really feel like you're in some lost paradise in the middle of the mountains where the outside world doesn't exist. It was a magical time. I would definitely go back here. The motel itself is a bit old but clean and very well maintained. You can tell they've been putting a lot of work into it. The free cold breakfast was nice and actually exceeded my expectations (though the dining area is pretty small). There is a rooftop hot tub that we didn't get around to using but my aunt who saw it said it was clean and cute. There are nice cafes and restaurants nearby and I highly recommend going for a walk out on 5 Ave, East towards the train tracks. We were two families and we got separate rooms. Each room had a fridge, a coffee machine and even a microwave oven which was nice. Our room consisted of two rooms (and both had TVs, which we didn't turn on) and three queen beds. I'd definitely go back and stay here. In fact I look forward to it. It was also great value for the money. Very...

We had an extremely disturbing experience at this motel. The owner, who identified himself as the manager, was aggressive and disrespectful from the start. He asked us where we were from Edmonton or Vancouver and then mentioned that the room was available and to start filling out our information before sharing pricing. I asked for the rate and my father, a senior, didn’t hear the room rate clearly and politely asked for clarification.
Instead of answering, the owner became visibly angry, suddenly claimed there was no availability, and told us to leave. When we asked for clarification, he escalated the situation, placing his hands on me in a threatening way. To make matters worse, he went to grab a stick as if he intended to use it against us.
This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, or anywhere. No customer deserves to be treated this way. The motel was completely empty when we arrived, and now we understand why.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this place entirely. No one should have to deal with abuse or intimidation when simply trying to...
