HOTEL EL MIRADOR — Hotel in Calama

As calama does not really offer anything we only stayed here in the evening to leave to the airport the next morning. The hotel is centrally located, but as there is not much to do that does not help much. It is next to a number of banks which may be convenient and several restaurants are close by.||Our room(16) was spacious and had wifi in the room (they formally only offer in the living room). The douche had hot water but there were also some shortcomings. There were no curtains for all windows hence we woke up early due to the light. There are a lot of warnings for theft from the room which made me a bit paranoid. There also no glass in the bathroom which was unconvenient for toothbrushing. ||The breakfast was cereal and instant coffee, we got some scrummbled eggs and toast offered which we took and tasted good. If you come to Calama and you stay for a night do not bother with a hostel, we stayed at the Native Hostel before going to Atacama and the room with a matrimonial bed and private bathroom is 45000 Chile Pesos. In the Hotel El Mirador its only 48 000 (6 USD more) and its a totally new level. An excellent hotel in the center of town with very good service. The house itself is kind of colonial style and the rooms and the bathrooms are really big and very clean, a very nice patio to chill is available and you can not hear the noise of the town inside the hotel. We went throught quite a lot of acommodations in Calama, surprised by the high prices everywhere (even hostels double room for almost 50.000 ChP) but this hotel was the best value for the price we found. The receptionist didn't speak english (and we didn't speak spanish) but we arranged everything without much problems. Rooms were clean, water was hot, breakfast was good (eventhough the staff was quite slow, we tried to explain that we have a taxi waiting outside in 20 minutes, but without much success) - we got eggs (as someone bellow complained that they did not got them), the receptionist called us a taxi and there was no problem with this accomodation.
