We stayed for four nights in early February. This is very good lodging if you keep your expectations in check. This is a family run guest house without the amenities of a traditional hotel despite the price. It is a few duplex cottages arranged around a horse paddock with a building for breakfast/administration.||||Pros:||--Included airport pick-up and drop-off were prompt||--The location is great! Close walking to distance Tahai, the don't miss site for sunsets; also across the street from the Museum and close walking to the Moai, Toki. It's also a further walking distance to town but be aware the walking is all on uneven terrain and quite dark at night||--It's very close to two restaurants--Puka Puka, our favorite on the island and Le Moai Sunset, OK food but good view||--Our room was very clean and housekeeping service good; and the bed was comfortable w a good shower||--Breakfast was very good with a nice selection including fresh fruit and juice and made to order eggs; the daily breakfast 'sweet' was always delicious. The breakfast service was good||||Cons:||--Our room was very crowded with a large daybed that we didn't need or ask for||--The room had an overhead fan and an electric floor fan (no AC) but the room got very hot during the day and took a while to cool down||--Overall, maintenance is needed. The stone walk into our cottage was broken and uneven; and we were missing a window screen which added to the heat build-up in the room. One day, the gutter to our cottage was lying in the bushes||--There is WIFI in the common building but it is sketchy as to when and how well it works; was hit or miss||--The front desk staff was rarely available for local help. The only time to catch them seemed to be at breakfast; there were a number of times we had questions or a request but no one was around.||||Overall, a good experience considering the limited range of accommodations...
Read moreThe staff at this small hotel were very friendly, attentive and always smiling. The hotel is modest, has well attended gardens and offers great views of the Pacific and of a local Moai. Bedrooms are spacious, comfortable with good hot showers.||Breakfast is simple and sufficient.||We travelled with two little ones (2&5) and we didn't find this at all problematic.||The Moai of Ahu Ko Te Riku and Ahu Tahia are a short walk away, and the Te Maoi Sunset restaurant is across the road.||Sunsets are a popular pastime, and when you sit down to watch them, you are often joined by locals, whose presence offers some gravitas and authenticity to the tradition.||You are aware always of being on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific, so being aware of your environmental footprint is key. Be modest with your consumption of water and power, keep your litter and dispose of it properly. You can walk almost everywhere, but hire cars are readily available should you need them. Their hire is casual, so you don't need to prebook. We were collected at the airport and hired one of the hotel's own fleet cars.||You are at the mercy of the weather, and in June it tends towards fresh and cool. Plan your wardrobe accordingly.||This is a once-in-lifetime destination, so most things are more expensive. Given the logistics of getting anything here, the overhead is worth paying. The sights are worth visiting. The people worth talking to. The sunsets worth...
Read moreMy wife and I very much enjoyed our stay here. While our pickup at airport was delayed by hotel's error, everything else in terms of service was very good. Anita specifically does a great job working to address all requests: she helped arrange for a private guide of the island, secured reservations at Kari Kari on short notice, etc. In terms of location, I found this lodge ideal. Close enough to town to walk but far enough outside to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the island. Also super close to the main sunset viewing spot on the island and one of the best restaurants (Te Moai Sunset - highly recommended). The breakfasts are fairly basic but perfectly sufficient. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was perfectly functional. The always open main lodge area is a great feature and creates good opportunities to converse with other guests. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to add a small snack bar one could buy snacks from as hotel is a little bit of a walk to nearest grocery store (there are drinks available for sale via...
