Hostal La Sombra del Viento — Hotel in La Serena

Four of us stayed in three rooms booked over a year ago for the 2019 eclipse. Each room has a different decor and main color and are each well equipped for all your travel needs. The small hotel is tucked away behind a door at the street and you enter into two lovely courtyards. The first if full of succulents and the second has grass and flowers. The owner, Marie Laure, was welcoming and most accommodating. We had a wonderful French breakfast each morning with homemade sweet and wholemeal and white breads, homemade yogurt and homemade jams of three varieties. She also helped us with local restaurants to which we could walk. We enjoyed them all. We were in La Serena for the eclipse, and so made our reservations over a year ago. Even with the town full to the brim, Marie Laure, the owner, didn't raise her prices, which are very reasonable to begin with! You enter the front door, into a lovely cactus garden, past the living room into a back courtyard which is surrounded by eight very charming rooms, each a different color theme. We were in the orange room with a very modern bathroom, very quiet, lots of room. For breakfast Marie Laure provides homemade yogurt, jams, breads, & cake - all delicious. My wife and I stayed here with friends for the July 2019 total solar eclipse.The rooms are located around a tranquil courtyard away from the street, are comfortable and well kept. The breakfasts were outstanding, including pastries, bread, yogurt and jams all made by the owner/ hostess, Marie-Lore, and all were delicious. The orange juice was fresh squeezed, and the coffee excellent. Perhaps the best aspect was the kindness, practical help and advice of the owner, who answered every question, including dealing with the payments for on-street parking.
