Hostal El Refugio — Hotel in Pucón

The hostel as such is great! I really loved the atmosphere and the vibe of the hostel! There's so much to do in Pucon and the staff is ready to provide you with all the information you need. Because of the two kitchens there was always enough room for everybody to cook and there is plenty of room to hang out. ||However, we were a bit unlucky with the trip that we wanted to do to Villarrica volcano. We wanted to go on a Sunday and book it through the hostel. Unfortunately, Sunday was fully booked so they told us to go on Monday, where there was only one spot left but they would try to get us a second one. We waited for two days for them to get back to us but every time we asked they said they didn't know more yet. In the end they told us on Sunday afternoon that we couldn't go with the hostels company and were ready to find another company for us. So we climbed the volcano on Monday, the company was great but it was more expensive than the hostel's company and the shame was that we could have gone with that same company on Sunday when you could see the lava but because of the slow organisation of the hostel we could only go on Monday and didn't see any lava because of the bad weather.||The other problem with the hostel was that they ended up charging us more than they had told us via email. Instead of charging us the price they had confirmed via email they charged the one on hostelworld and ignored my objection.||It's a shame that a hostel with such a great vibe turns out to be a bad...

Was previously at the sister hostel called Chili Kiwi so was expecting the same/similar service. However, on arrival they seemed to have made a human error with our booking since they only booked 1 bed in a dorm room and not 2 beds as per the reservation.||Since they were fully booked we offered to share the 1 bunk bed which they were happy to accommodate. However, I asked for our full deposit back since the error was on their side. At first the landlady (who was quiet rude) declined and said we would be using all the facilities for two people but after kicking up a fuss that two grown adults would be sleeping in 1 single bunk bed she agreed and the fault was fully on their side.||Then after waiting for check in we finally got our bed, only to be told we had a top bunk. This was crazy as we would fall out of the top bunk. The receptionist had to ask the guy in the below bunk to swap. Luckily he agreed.||The rest of our stay went smoothly. The kitchen was basic and could do with more pots/pans and utensils. There was no breakfast included which was a shame. However the 2 bathrooms had good showers, hot water and if you ask for a towel they will provide one free of charge for the duration...

Das Hostel was an sich vollkommen in Ordnung. Jedoch klappte so einiges nichts bzgl. der Organisation. Wie jeder in Pucon, wollten wir natuerlich auch gerne den Vulkan besteigen. Alle im Hostel warteten darauf, da die Wetterbedingungen entscheidend sind.Wir fragten, ob wir etwas reservieren muessen. Uns wurde von zwei Mitarbeitern versichert, dass dies nicht noetig ist und wir auf jeden Fall an der naechsten Tour teilnehmen koennen. Je mehr Personen den Vulkan besteigen moechten, desto mehr Guides werden eingesetzt. Wir sind Donnerstags angekommen. Als es abends hiess, dass Sonntags schoenes Wetter sein wird, haben wir uns nochmal erkundigt, ob wir nun fest buchen muessen. Dies wurde wieder verneint. Wir besorgten daraufhin schon mal Bustickets fuer montags um weiter zu fahren. Als wir Freitag abend dann aus dem Nationalpark kamen, wurde uns auf einmal mitgeteilt, dass es fuer die Vulkantour am Sonntag keine Plaetze mehr gibt. Wir koennten ja auch die Tage danach noch gehen. Es waren ca. 10 Leute im Nationalpark. Alle super sauer. Einige warteten bereits seid 1 Woche auf gutes Wetter. Die Mitarbeiter sahen ein, dass die Personen, die bereits am laengsten warteten, zuerst gehen sollten und so wurde eine neue Teinehmerliste ueber Stunden am Abend erstellt. Weil wir nicht nachher ohne Tour da stehen wollten, haben wir uns selbst auf den Weg gemacht und die Tour bei einem anderen Anbieter gebucht. Wir hatten Glueck, denn kurz darauf gab es auch hier keine Plaetze mehr und es gibt wenig empfehlenswerte und sichere Agenturen.||Am naechsten Tag ging es direkt weiter. Wir hatten eine weitere Tour Samstags gebucht. Im Prospekt stand, dasss es um 14 Uhr los geht. Als um 20 nach 2 immer noch niemand kam, um uns abzuholen, fragten wir am Empfang nochmal nach, ob wir auch am Hostel abgeholt werden. Sie sagten zu und teilten uns dann erst mit, dass die Tour ja erst um halb 3 los geht. Daraufhin versicherten wir uns nochmal, ob wir denn um 19 Uhr (wie im Prospekt beschrieben) zurueck sein werden. Wir mussten bis 20 Uhr bei der Anprobe der Schutzkleidung und Schuhe fuer den Vulkan gewesen sein. Dies wurde uns dann auch nochmal am Empfang bestaetigt. Am Ende waren wir erst um 20.05 Uhr zurueck. ||Beim Check Out durften wir uns dann nochmal ein letztes Mal ueber die unfaehigen Mitarbeiter aergern. Wir haben am ersten Tag im Hostel gewaschen. Der Preis wurde zwischen voller und halbvoller Waschmaschine differenziert. Wir brauchten 1 volle Maschine. Als die Waschmaschine fertig war, war nichts sauber. Die Putzfrau teilte uns sowie den Rezeptionsmitarbeitern mit, dass man die Maschine nur halb voll machen darf, sonst wird die Waesche nicht sauber. Wir haben daraufhin also nochmal zwei halb volle Waschmaschinengaenge benoetigt, durften aber am Ende 1,5 bezahlen. Wir waren es jedoch leid, abermals zu...
