Hostal Pehuenche Talca — Hotel in Talca

I came to this hotel last night to enquire about a room however the room was more expensive than we wanted so we said sorry and left. During this time I had put my water bottle on the desk whilst I was talking to the receptionist (also known as thief). I stood outside the door for maybe 5 minutes and then remembered my water bottle. I went back inside and explained i had left it on the desk. The woman said she didnt know, she had been sat there and not seen it. I 100% know I left it on the desk and no-one had been in the office or out. This lady was a liar and a thief. She quickly got aggressive and defensive and refused to talk anymore with me. I'm not sure why she was so desperate for my water bottle but I would never want to stay somewhere where members of staff steal your belongings!! Security is very bad here! I had to spend one night in Talca so booked this hostal based on other comments. I certainly wasnt disappointed! I arrived late on a -3 night, and expected as is often the case in Chile, to find a cold room, but no; it was very warm, heating set at 28. I was very surprised as to how well the room was decorated and everything spotless. Far better than in most 3* hotels in Chile. The breakfast was simple but sufficient, with eggs, toast, juice and coffee. My only problem was that I live in a place which is totally silent at night, and the room was on the main road, so traffic woke me up, on and off. However, that’s my problem and not the hostal. Our Mission Team from Oklahoma stayed here February 2020. This place far exceeded our expectations. It was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good and served individually, not buffet style. Each room is assigned the use of a very clean bathroom located just outside your room and there was plenty of hot water. I believe a few rooms have a bath in the room. We felt very safe and not at all worried about leaving our belongings there during the day. There is a grocery store and other shopping just across the street. I would definitely stay there again.
