I have been staying here since for few days and I'd like to give a reason why I will be leaving. One of the volunteers - I hate to describe him but I don't know his name: shaved bottom of his head, ponytail, with glasses, mustache and beard - was extremely rude to a group of 6 of us on the patio. The sign outside says quite hours after 1 am and at 12am he was extremely rude saying we needed to get out or go to bed. He made snarky comments about needing to clean after us and when we brought our dishes in to wash them ourselves he fused and said to leave them in the sink. We mentioned we had open containers of beer and didn't want to go out onto the street because it's illegal to drink and he said the choice was up to us to leave and drink or go to sleep. After 2 guys said they'd leave and asked for a key he gave them one saying he only wanted them to back safely. When I asked for a second key just in case he asked me for a deposit when he freely gave the guys one. After I brought up this fact he repeatedly said "just leave, get out, get out." He was so rude. As a long term traveler I understand the importance of volunteers in hostels, but this one in particular was on a power trip and even his coworkers apologized to us for his attitude. For this reason I won't be staying here again and will advise other travelers to do the same. ||Unfortunately, this has tainted my experience here. We tried to speak with this volunteer but he was unreasonable, which is unfortunate because all of us had enjoyed our stay here until this point. If you stay, hopefully he will be gone by then. I only hope management doesn't tolerate this kind of behavior...
Read moreIt's a funny one really, the Hostal here is actually very cheap which is excellent.
However, I've been to cheap hostals that have been excellent, this just really falls short massively.
First of all, the staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating so I can't fault them at all.
When we booked the Hostal, we booked a 6 bed dorm but we were guided to a 12 bed, when we advised them, they tried to do something about it but they couldn't as there were no 6 bed dorms available. If we had known, we wouldn't have bothered.
The bed itself was pretty damn comfortable but, it's right next door to the market, which starts at 4am, so don't expect a good sleep if you're in these cheaper dorms.
The breakfast itself is a pretty nasty piece of bread, some weird manjar spread (not as nice as usual) jam and some fruit. Really really basic.
The actual Hostal has a real lack of social areas (two small sofas inside and a small dining room). There's really not very many places other than your bedroom to relax.
Overall, I'm not too fussy with what I want in a Hostal, but I can't say I enjoyed staying here too much (even if it was slightly cheaper than other places).
You also pay more on the weekend which was not communicated to us, so we ended up having to pay more than we wanted to.
Again, the staff couldn't have been nicer but I think I needed...
Read moreAlthough I found this hostel charming, my partner described it as ‘past charming’ - I think mainly due to the bathrooms as he found them a little dirty and small but I didn’t mind them too much. We arrived quite early and walked into an altercation with a new guest being turned away from booking a room which started our stay with a strange vibe as things got a little heated. All the volunteers at the hostel seemed lovely and there was a good social vibe, although we had some hiccups with checking in as I believe the volunteer who processed us was new. Great location, lovely market (pop down for some fruit!) near buses and the coast and also great breakfast. Building is beautiful and the beds are...
