Usually in Beijing I stay at the Jianguo, about 200m away, but it was full this time. I stayed at the Jinglun, and while perfectly adequate nothing was quite as good as its near neighbour. it was less spacious. The breakfast wasn't as good. There was no iron in my room, which was important as I had business meetings. Okay, I found an ironing room on the 7th floor, which made up for it, but it took three days of asking before I was told about it.||||But the real problem was that I was there while the city was going crazy for the One Belt and Road conference. The hotel was CRAMMED, the security to get in and out was far stricter than the airport, and it was quite intrusive. But the security was one thing, the way the hotel staff changed with the pressure was another. They were stressed, and if you weren't part of the conference you definitely became second class.I went down for breakfast one morning and the member of staff on the door was so rude I never went back. I wasn't missing much, the breakfast was poor anyway||||Some good things. Until then the staff had been very polite and helpful, and you get a reasonable rate when you exchange money (unlike the daylight robbery of changing money at the Jianguo up the street. Probably if I had gone at another time i would have enjoyed it more, but i will probably go back to the Jianguo. It costs almost the same anyway, and the Jianguo don't charge you 18 yuan to make a cup of coffee in your own room, as...
Read moreI rented 2 rooms one for me and my wife and one for my niece and mother and law. Sadly they are doing construction work and remodeling it (that wasn’t mentioned when booking).A queen on the 8th floor. Very very dated. Worst bathroom of all the hotels I’ve been to in china. Probably last updated in the 90s. Very very small 40 inch tv I didn’t bother turning on….Pillows weren’t very comfortable but bed was ok. 2nd room on the 4 floor had 2 twin beds. This one was slightly more updated. Had usb jacks to charge your phones and a much bigger tv. Overall a much nicer room. Very over priced for what is offered. Pretty bad soap, shampoo for a 4 star hotel that was over $100 per room. I stayed at a James Joyce for $30 that I couldn’t tell much of a difference. Think breakfast was 58 rnb per person. I’ve gone to really nice places got a whole fish, Peking duck and 4 other things for 250-300 rnb. So passed on the breakfast…..The location is super central to a lot of places you’d want to see but the subway and buses are great in china and taxis are super cheap. Stay at a nicer place unless this is way way...
Read moreThis is the 7th hotel I've been to in China, and definitely the worst of them all. The first room I stayed in (I got in really late so I was too tired to do anything about it that night) the bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned (hair everywhere, mirrors and tub filmy and dirty, etc), the AC didn't work, the closet lights wouldn't shut off and the closet doors were too small to block the light. I had to open the windows and curtains so it wasn't too hot, adding street noise and more light to the ambiance. After a super limited, sub-par breakfast buffet (again, comparing to 6 other hotels), I asked for a clean room with working AC. Turns out the only thing that isn't the same in here is the closet light shuts off. The bathroom is still dirty with hair (and this time, pink mold in the tub and shower grout), the mirrors and handles are all dirty, and they didn't provide washcloths, which I discovered mid-shower. I really regret this is the last hotel I'm staying in before leaving China. Go somewhere else...
