This luxurious hotel has been around for years and it is still one of the best. It offers||a lower price than the Grand Hyatt and some other international competitors especially if staying 3 days or more. Location is a bit further from Tiananmen but taxis aren’t expensive. During evening rush hours it can be hard to get a cab so plan in advance. Surprisingly there isn’t a line of cabs waiting outside the hotel. I guess Beijing isn’t like that. Always have to call. ||The sprawling China World shopping mall is connected to the lobby. Very handy especially in bad weather and has great restaurants and lots of high end brands. Not many mid range shops. Ole supermarket is a long walk through the mall. Confusing layout, must follow the signs. The Atm is in the mall and a bit hard to find. There were some VIPs staying in the hotel and we had to go through airport style security checks each time we entered the hotel. Apparently this happens quite often at this hotel. Would have been useful to have a bakery near the lobby area in case you need a snack because the mall bakeries open late and close early. Live music in the lobby is a classy touch. ||Service:||Professional and helpful. Must praise the concierge and bell desk. Helped me get train tickets, taxis, book museum and forbidden city tickets. Because reading some Chinese and having a local cell phone number is sometimes required for such things. It is quite hard to use the new apps Wechat for advance reservations for sights and Alipay for payment of taxis and restaurants and shops. ||||The Room:||Not the most modern and that is good. No silly glass walls between the bathroom and bedroom like some new places. Aircon is good and adjustable. Beds are comfy and duvets just right. A few points for improvement. Bathrooms have a separate shower but water temperature can fluctuate. Pump bottles for hand soap and shower gel would have been better than the soap bars and small bottles. Also facial cotton pads ought to be provided. Bedside USB outlets would be handy. A washjet toilet bowl would be a good upgrade. Internet login is tricky requiring cell phone verification. Should just make it immediate login and not require a password. ||One night I smelled cigarette smoke coming from a neighboring room. The hotel was apologetic and I know it is not their fault since the guest violated the no smoking rule. ||||Highly recommend this hotel if you don’t need to be next to...
Read moreThis has always been my preferred hotel in Beijing. However, my stay this time coincide with the Grand Military Parade in Beijing. The security was extremely tight, exiting and entering the hotel even as the guest. Movement around the hotel and the annexed mall was very restricted.||This is the second time I stayed in this hotel which at that time was staying on the Horizon Club Floor. However, this time I opted for the Deluxe Room as I was on a China Tour. The room furnishing was quite worn out but nevertheless is well maintained and kept clean. The view from the room is facing the CCTV tower which is very unusual and unique in architecture. ||The house-keeping staff are very well mannered, but I had some issue with the concierge as they were not very helpful and not able to assist when we try to seek their help to make some restaurants bookings not within the hotel. I was also disappointed that such a reputable hotel, they do not even have any chairs at the lobby for guests to sit while waiting for check in or after coming back from the outside for a rest.||Equally disappointed was the Chinese Restaurant (Summer Palace) which we patronized. The quality of the food prepared is not value for money. ||Overall, I find that the hotel environment is not as good as the last time I stayed in this hotel with the iconic and stylish prestige of an International Hotel. The surrounding lobby area seems so lifeless except for the buzz and security guards manning the area. The more active areas are at the annexed building, but accessibility was restricted due to the...
Read moreStayed at China World Hotel during my entire weeklong leisure trip to Beijing. Chose the hotel for its proximity to the subway and its renowned reputation. My package included a King bed Premier Room with free use of Horizon Club facilities. The room on the 15th floor faced the thoroughfare in front and let me know firsthand the traffic condition in the vicinity. Room was spacious with a three-seater couch, writing desk, etc and a large angle-adjustable tv, which was good as I have a habit of watching tv before bedtime and the couch where we watched tv at other times was some distance away. ||Toiletries were of good quality which were replenished every day. So were the bottled water, tea bags and fruits. The housekeeping ladies who cleaned up the room were very thoughtful providing us with more bottled water as she noticed we often drank tea in the room. We had breakfast at the Horizon Club on a daily basis and were there for happy hour a few times. Quality and choice of food were remarkable. ||One thing I would suggest, perhaps more for the attention of the management of the shopping mall downstairs, is that more clearer signage to show the direction to the hotel would definitely help the hotel guests who walk from the connecting subway station back to the hotel. Many hotel guests like me are naturally not familiar with the area. I could only more confidently find my way back to the hotel from the mall after three days. My problem probably but worth to...
