I have stayed here almost every time I come to Beijing since its opening. Over the years the hotel has gotten older but so did its service and up keep.
During my most recent stay of four nights I have had a few observations which I would like to point out:
The first room I got reeked of cigarettes to a point I felt nauseous. I contacted the front desk and they were nice to switch me to a lower floor (from high floor room I paid for to a larger room on the lowest 37th floor). The layout in the larger room was pretty bad, where the sink was secluded, and the shower was facing the closet. The windows were small, albeit with more sides and therefore more views of the street. The room was not kept well, there were broken solar panels in the corner of the bathroom. I didn’t ask to move again simply because I didn’t want to keep on switching rooms
The hallway would smell like smoke every morning I left for meetings and every day when I got back from meetings. For a nonsmoking hotel, this has not been handled well.
The aircon was weak to nonexistent. Lobby was a pleasant temperature and Beijing has been scorching hot. My hotel room displayed a constant temperature of 28 throughout the day and night, no matter how low I turned the control panel by the bed. As the hotel is fitted with down duvet and lined with down lining, I would wake up in sweats constantly at night.
I ordered room service twice during my stay. Once I ordered a club sandwich, after calling guest service asking where the food is after 40 min, the food was finally delivered. The sandwich was cut into 4 pieces, one of them had the bottom slice of bread missing completely, and the others were loosely put together by picks. Not sure what went on there.
Last but not the least, I noticed the coffee cups if not all cups in my room were never replaced during my entire stay. Which means either they wash it with water in my room and wipe it with whatever they had at their disposal, or simply just wiped the cups and put them back. None of which is acceptable for a Park Hyatt. I know the cups were never replaced because there was one coffee cup with a very distinct crack in the middle and I deliberately used it for coffee every day. I would then wash my cups again and wiped them down with alcohol wipes every day.
There are observations here and there but those were the main issues I had with the hotel. Such a pity to see this as I loved the hotel for many years. But there are plenty of other great choices in the area which are newer if travelling, so will try...
Read moreWe stayed here 1 night and overall had a short but really nice stay. Patrick the concierge deserves 5* himself as he was exceptionally helpful with organising a car to take us to jinshanling Great Wall & also a car to take our luggage to the hotel on our arrival at the train station so we were free to head straight to the Forbidden city. He kept in communication with us and checked in to make sure we had arrived ok. We honestly couldn’t have seen as many sites without his help. He is a real asset to the hotel. ||We had a couple of issues but I do think it’s important to point out that these issues were sorted very quickly by staff, which does speak to the excellent quality of the service. ||Issue 1: the first room we were given smelt very strongly of smoke (clearly some silly guest before us hasn’t abided by the no smoking rules). We couldn’t stand it so we requested to move rooms. We were moved within 30 minutes which was great, and an excellent response from staff. It is disappointing that housekeeping didn’t pick up on this as it really wasn’t a room fit for putting guests in at that time. ||Issue 2: we couldn’t order room service through the TV / app as it wasn’t working. Housekeeping came straight up to help but couldn’t figure it out either, so we ended up translating our order over the phone, which ended up being no problem. The food itself was great quality. ||Issue 3: there was a mix up at checkout and staff tried to double-charge us for our trip to the Great Wall. Another staff member came to help but this did delay us by about 20 minutes. ||I think it reflects really positively on the staff and the hotel how the problems we encountered were dealt with, but I can’t give 5* to a hotel that puts guests in a room stinking of smoke. ||Other than that, our room (a king bed with CBD views) was very well appointed and felt really comfortable, we really loved the open plan layout & the amenities were spot on. The bar had great cocktails and fantastic views. The food from room service was really good. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. The location is very convenient being in the Yintai Centre and with direct access to the subway. ||If our room had been right first time this would have no doubt been 5*. An unfortunate situation which I’m sure is an uncommon occurrence. Still a lovely place to stay and we...
