The Sheraton of Guangzhou provided very sloppy and unsatisfying service. First, allow me to start with some background. I booked a trip recently to China with a traveling agency that included a bed and complimentary breakfast for 13 (adult + children) and we stayed in this hotel during the days of 6/29 to 7/1. We added one more person to our travelling group at the last minute by contacting our travel agency with the bed and complimentary breakfast (making us 14 total). This extra person, who I will call Carl, for the sake of understanding, roomed in the same room as my parents. When the time came for breakfast the next day, Carl was not allowed to eat due to the new purchase that has not yet cleared through the system. So far so good right? But, when it came to me and my sister’s turn to eat (we were the last two of our group of 14), BOTH of us were forbidden to eat breakfast due to their false claims of “our group has exceeded the maximum amount of allowed meals”. We spent 5 minutes in Mandarin to clarify with the staff that our room, did not eat a single serving yet, however staff/she said "you talk to the front desk (in Mandarin)". In the end, due to a rush we had to leave the hotel for a planned tour without resolution. The next day, when we were checking out, I specifically asked the receptionist if there had been any meals logged into the system that came from my room yesterday. The answer was a strong and definite NO, yet the staff member from yesterday was adamant in depriving us from our meals. WHY/WHAT did the staff/she do to cause this confusion? There was only a change-additional one meal and the change should have been applied only to the room of my parents; however, my sister and I's room, a room that was completely irrelevant of the change, was affected and we lost 2 more meals. I personally could care less about how much money we spent or how expensive the hotel got, but I do expect that a hotel like the Sheraton of Guanzhou provides me on par service relative to its average 4+ star review on all online websites. However, the shock did not simply end there as we questioned a manager for the reason of our dissatisfaction. Being in China, I decided to prompt and question in Mandarin, however the manager responded in an extremely careless attitude and responded brazenly saying that the money was received very late, and that it was a given that we would not be eating. But when I changed into speaking English out of nature, I felt her entire attitude changed and she started to apologize greatly while simultaneously bowing her head. I definitely sense some sort of discriminatory action here since I was quite surprised that simply speaking English could change her opinion so quickly. Also the management was unwilling to compromise any reparations or solution to our dissatisfaction. In summary, this hotel has been a very bad experience for me, I advise all to choose...
Read moreThis was a pretty nice, recently updated Sheraton but it was quite busy and not very relaxing as a result. The wait to check in was long and slow and the room was not ready on time even though we were checking in well past normal check-in time. They didn't offer much in the way of an apology, only said they were busy. ||The club lounge was a zoo, and they warned us in advance to get there early to make sure we got a table. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a supposedly exclusive club lounge when you have to be stressed out to go and stake out a table. Several out of control kids running around and not being addressed by the lounge attendants. The Cub lounge had a wide selection of food and you could certainly make a full dinner out of it, assuming you eat meat since they had very little for vegetarians. I asked the attendant if he could arrange something for me and after a long wait he showed up with a sad looking bowl of white rice with a few frozen mixed vegetables in it, which I kindly declined. One night they did have a lukewarm spiral pasta dish that had no meat in it but tasted like hospital or cafeteria food. Maybe that's their idea what westerners like. The selection of wine was low end that they did have some self-serve spirits and some interesting desserts. Almost nothing on offer during the day outside of the evening happy hour. ||Breakfast was a complete madhouse and equally stressful. Hard to get service and had to fight your way through the food line. The selection and quality was pretty good but again hard to enjoy.||I think part of the reason this hotel is so busy is that it's located so close to so many malls and thus very convenient if you like that sort of thing. Since we visited on the weekend, I didn't care for the hordes of people on the streets outside the hotel and adjacent mall.||Checkout was equally slow and painful. ||Overall, this was more or less your typical Sheraton experience, similar to probably a four-star level of Sheraton in the US, though much busier. This wasn't my favorite hotel in Guangzhou but if you like the location and don't mind the crowds, it's a pretty dependable and typical modern Western...
Read moreI liked staying in this hotel very much. I had an executive suite on the 18th floor and it really was very comfortable and very well thought out. The bed room is isolated on one side by the living room on the other side by the bathroom so a very good nights sleep is guaranteed. Also the room is very dark when the lights are out. The hotel is new and house keeping do a very good job ok keeping everything spotless.
The desk and office chair are amongst the best I have had in any hotel and the living area was large and comfortable. The sofa was also very comfortable. The selection in the mini bar was good, but as usual with all hotels, hideously expensive.
Only slight negative with the suite was the tiny wardrobe, I only have one suitcase with me and the wardrobe was too small. There is no good reason for the tiny wardrobe as the suite is huge and has plenty of room for a normal sized wardrobe.
The executive lounge is far too small for the hotel and is strangely unwelcoming, this has nothing to do with the staff who are polite and helpful, if a little unpolished. It is a feeling that the lounge was designed to get you in and out as quickly as possible. For instance the armchairs do not have arms, so reading is uncomfortable. To be honest the lounge is the reason I checked out of the hotel and moved to another.
Breakfast is ok, nothing special and the tables feel very crowded together.
Lots of kids in the lounge on the five nights I was there but they were all fairly well behaved. It can make business calls difficult, more the parents than the kids to be honest.
I did not have any issues with the front desk staff, they were polite and efficient, check in and check out were very good..
The location of the hotel is very good, attached to the Tee Mall, which is a very good mall with lots to look at. Also opposite the hotel is the Tianhe Stadium home to Guangzhou Evergrande Football Club. I went to see them playing against Shanghai and enjoyed the experience enormously.
I recommend...
