(1) Made the reservation via the Bonvoy phone app. I wasn’t told there was a special event code that I needed to enter in order to book the package so it took me a long while to figure out.
(2) Thank you for the birthday balloons and towel dolls that were put into our room prior to check in. It was a surprise to my wife. Also thanks for the birthday cake of which the portion was generous. It was perfectly arranged. Thanks again.
(3) I requested foam pillow and extra towels. They didn’t appear in the room. So happened I ran into a housekeeping lady outside and asked for it again.
(4) The baby bath tub, children toilet seat and baby amenities were provided in advance. Thanks.
(5) The kids program was nicely organized with professional organization. My son was a bit scared at the beginning but the staffs successfully calmed down my son then he enjoyed the rest of the program so much.
(6) Shower pressure was strong. I like it. But the toilet was extremely thin snd not control use.
(7) The hotel provided Thann amenities which my wife really likes.
(8) The cold seafood served in dinner buffet was tasteless which was a bit disappointing. Hot dishes weren’t exceptional also. The good thing is that there were a kid’s corner which my son basically only ate the food there. There was good ice cream and there were party toys available for the kids to play with. Dessert was average. Suggest to provide French fries, BBQ pork, steam scallops, pasta, etc. The Japanese sashimi was a disaster. There was so much tendon inside the sashimi and I had to threw it out. In addition, the buffet should pros pair scissors for cutting the sea food shelves. The speed of collecting dirty dishes was very quick although they collected my dish that still had unfinished food a couple of times.
(9) Breakfast buffet was the normal
Marriott standard. It ran out of tea bags for the entire time without many refill. The seating was very spacious and I didn’t experience any line up during entrance.
(10) Food at the Chinese restaurant was excellent. The manager even took a proactive approach to help me to take a photo with my wife. The quality of the tea leaves should improve though.
(11) Check in and checkout staff were very friendly.
(12) No complimentary room upgrade was offered. No welcome gift was mentioned.
(13) Some of the power sockets didn’t work.
(14) The alarm clock still had the outdated...
Upon checking in the reception desk changed my room without any reason, and I had to end up with a smaller bed, which was not very comfortable. There were no apologies, nor compensation. And because the room was booked and paid upfront, and I had to transfer for another international flight in 12 hours, I was not really left with any choices.
Staff at Sky City Marriott HK didn't seem to be very nice, through the whole stay I could not recall being greeted by any staff, with or without smile. While I was waiting for the elevator, a staff member was holding the elevator door for a white couple, looked like a flattery brown-nose, bowed and bowed. The couple must be very important. Anyway, he held the door, and then closed the door and saw off the couple leaving for their room and left me and other customers standing there waiting for the next elevator. And, he passed by without any apologies, or explanation, or even looked at us who were apparently very confused. The irony is the staff himself is a non-white Asian, a local Hong Konger. The check-out experience was cold, too, the receptionist was cold, no smile (apparently as other staff at the hotel). During my stay, those basic greetings, even standard for no-star hostels, such as "hello", "good-bye", "enjoy your stay with Marriott", "please let us know if you need anything" were absent. Meanwhile, the room is probably the most expensive room of the same standard among all hotels in Hong Kong, possibly in the world. I had to open and door when entering and existing the hotel. That's fine, but it felt funny when there were two, not just one, bell boys standing by the door but not doing their job. My guess is the manager must not be at work that day.
For a five-star hotel, a brand like Marriott which used to have such a good reputation, the experience this time I have is probably the worst. I transferred at Hong Kong coming back from a conference in Japan, stayed at a 3-star hotel in Osaka. Its service and amenities, and almost everything, were way better than what I had with Marriott HK. I don't see myself staying with Marriott or any other brands in the franchise, at least for a long time in the future. I will not recommend any Bonvoy hotels to my family, my friends. And I will definitely no recommend them to my colleagues, amy company and my customers in Australia. It was not a pleasant...
