I booked this hotel after a recommendation from a friend who frequents Shanghai both for work and leisure and my own reading up on reviews on Agoda, Booking and TripAdvisor, etc. ||Price was really reasonably affordable, considering the decor, cleanliness, accessibility and overall standards. | We booked a Superior Twin Room with City view which comprises two queen size beds.||Location wise - It's along Huaihai Road, so you don't have to worry about shopping and getting amenities. There is a Pacific Coffee right at the ground floor of the hotel. There is also a Watsons just next door. ||Do note that the reception is on the 2nd level. ||If you are cabbing from the airport to the hotel, the taxi driver will most likely stop by the road just outside Watsons. You really just have to spot Watsons and ask the taxi driver to stop - as we realise not all taxi drivers know where Jinchen Hotel is - so do have the exact address ready when you board the cab. ||Also, do note that there is a short flight of steps that you have to take to get to the ground floor of the hotel. Watsons, Pacific Coffee and the hotel is on an elevated ground from the ground floor. So once you alighted from the cab, you still have to go up a very short flight of stairs (maybe about 5-8 steps) to get to the "ground floor" of the hotel. I'm saying this because these 5-8 steps for ladies with a heavy luggage may be a concern for some ladies, if there are no gentlemen around to help you. ||It was also on the last day when we were trying to flag a cab to the airport that we realised the tourist hop-on hop-off bus also stops here. Nonetheless, it is within walking distance to the MTRs and depending on which line you are taking, you turn left or right from the hotel. If you turn right and walk straight, there is this street snack - Fried Spring Onion (scallion) "pancake" - which is really good - even though it is a chain and you see the same brand elsewhere, my travel companion and I still think this outlet does it better. The LINE cafe is also within walking distance. ||Room-wise - it was clean and decor was decent. Maybe it was because it was renovated in recent years. Bed was comfortable. We find it weird though that the washing basin is situated outside and along the walkway from the door to the room, and not within the toilet itself. But it's OK. The toilet area is divided into two areas with glass doors - one is your shower area and the other is where the toilet bowl is. The toilet bowl was that of the Japanese kind where it has many functions of cleaning your bottom. Re the shower room, there is a bathtub and also a rain shower as well as a detachable shower head. ||Because we travel in March and it was still the Winter-Spring period and was still cold, there was no aircon on but heater. As my travel companion and I belong to those who are more afraid of heat than coldness, we turn off the heater and had to slightly open the window for some cool air ventilation. ||There's no complimentary Wi-Fi though. ||Service wise - Staff at the reception were generally helpful - though one of them serve us with a straight face. This was OK because guess he just wasn't smiling. He was kind enough to help us call and make a restaurant booking when we asked so and also let us know how to get tot he restaurant. However, it was weird that on another day, when we wanted to check how long a cab ride will take us from the hotel to the airport - the staff was unable to tell us - and have to do some internet search to let us know (which we thought we could have done it on our own then). we asked them because we thought they would be in a better position to tell us and we will get our answers faster. ||Overall a nice stay and I would stay there again if i visit Shanghai and will also recommend my...
Read moreThis renovated hotel is in a nice building. The reception is on de first floor. Check in went smooth. Although there was only one guy who spoke poor english. We got room 416. A standard room with an electronic/ magnetic key. The room was not small but not to big and had a big window facing the street.. It has evrything a hotel room should have. Nicely furnished and decorated and soundproof. The room is cleaned every day. The bath area is a bit strange. First there is a shower section. Next to that there is bath tub also with a shower. The toilet is an extension of the shower section. No door in between. So when you are taking a shower, the floor in the toilet can get very wet/ slippery. And if want to go to the toilet you have to go through the shower a section, The toilet bowl is of Japenese style. The seating is heated and the bowl itself has many options to clean your behind. Two minus are that there is no clothes lines in the bath erea and The staff doesnt speak english. Only some staff members at the reception speak very very poor english.||||The hotel has a conference room and on the 6th floor is the Jinchen Lounge. Every day between 1.30pm and 4pm coffee, thee, softdrinks, snacks and pastries are served to hotel guests. There is no swimming pool. If you walk through the corridors your hear soft soothing music. On the main floor there is a Paccific Coffee and Just next door is a "Watsons". A shop for personal care||||Breakfast is Chinese oriented. Not much western food. Thats not surpising. The majority of the guests were Chinese.||||Through other reviews i could read that the wifi worked perefectly. Well the hotel had wifi but in China, mainland, you can only get acces to the internet if you have a chinese chip card. I would stay only five days in Shanghai. So i refused to buy one. The Chinese goverment want to check and control your internet behaviour.||||The hotel is in the upscale part of The Huaihai Middle Road. In this street you have the flagship stores of the big famous fashion and sports brands. Shopping malls, restaurant and coffee shops. Its not far from the city center and a short walk to Xintiandi metro station.||||A good and nice three star hotel, but i dont think i would stay here again. I would like to stay closer to the Bund||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||Two other negatives are that the staff speaks and understands very bad english and the old fashioned furniture in public spaces of the hotel.||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||The bath section is a bit strange. Read moreI'm giving 4 stars for the value of this room, the hotel location, and the in-room amenities. There were plenty of drawers, a mini-fridge for your own food, plenty of plugs/USB chargers, and a comfortable vanity + separate shower room, which I like. It was perfect for one person. The wifi worked no problem (and my VPN worked as well, which was a bonus!). A very pleasant surprise was how QUIET the room was. I was on the third floor facing the street and had no problems with noise (I live in LA and have lived in NYC, Boston & San Fran for reference). Other city hotels are much noisier. You are in the middle of shopping and restaurants so I didn't spend time in the hotel and had breakfast elsewhere except for one morning. Mostly Asian choices with a few Western items available via buffet. Near two subway stations, and the Shanghai metro is quite easy to use if you are comfortable with public transit. And if you have some free time you are near the French Concession, worth a walk down the tree-lined streets past Sun Yat-sen's former residence and through a beautiful park. Again, for the price is is high-value, especially if you don't require a lot of help from a concierge for...
