Stay in royal court hotel for 3 nights, hotel was very hard to find but if you have map (GPS) app on your phone it is a lot easier. Receptionist was rude and did not understand any English. I asked for extra pillows because the bed was so hard I could not sleep and the staff told me to just go back to my room. The queen room is so small I could not open my suit case. We found flying bugs and also cockroaches inside the room. The walls are so thin you can hear everything that is happening on the floor. Seriously cannot think of any positive comments for this place. I think this hotel definitely had bots to give good reviews as it is nowhere near what I have read in previous reviews. I am not a fancy type, I have stay on a old train, backpackers and even camping in the bush. I would recommend looking at Mason hotel which is around 50-100 meters down the Main Street. Mason hotel is a lot more closer to shops and is actually on the main rd, looks a lot more cleaner, my partner and I was on the verge of moving to mason’s but we have already prepaid for royal court and would be out of pocket to move. Lastly royal court does not have any taxi service, we had to carry our huge luggages and walk to the main rd to hail a taxi because this hotel is the so hidden taxi are not able to find it so just keep this in mind when...

Read moreUpon arriving in Shanghai, took a long taxi ride to the Royal Court Hotel. It was off a major road and within easy walking distance to many stores and restaurants. Great location to miss and hear the constant traffic yet close enough to go and do things. The hotel was very clean and rooms adequate. Although the desk staff could not speak English, it was easy to get our point to them and make ourselves understood. There was a restaurant on the premises but only served Chinese fare - not bad but different. Could not get coffee there, so had to walk a couple blocks to their version of a 7/11 store that served coffee and pastry. Wanted to slowly get into the Chinese eating culture so still had to have coffee instead of hot water or hot tea which is a staple with every meal. Although not real fancy, it was very adequate and had a good location. Would stay there again given the...
