⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5/5 – Elegant Retreat with Impeccable Service I stayed at the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai during my business trip, and it was a delightful blend of Japanese precision and Shanghai charm. While not flawless, the experience was memorable for its serene atmosphere and attentive staff. First Impressions: The lobby exudes timeless elegance with its floral arrangements and soft lighting. Check-in was efficient, though the front desk could get busy during peak hours. A welcome tea was offered—a nice touch! Room & Comfort: My Deluxe Room was spacious and spotless, with a plush bed and a stunning city view. The decor felt slightly dated (classic 5-star rather than modern chic), but the amenities were top-tier: a deep soaking tub, high-quality linens, and a quiet HVAC system. Housekeeping was meticulous. Location: Nestled near Shaanxi Road, the hotel is steps from the French Concession’s tree-lined streets, with easy access to Nanjing Road (10-min walk) and Xintiandi. The South Shaanxi Road Metro (Line 1/10) is a 5-minute stroll away—ideal for exploring. Dining & Service: - Yamazato (Japanese restaurant): ★★★★★! The sushi counter was transcendent, with flown-in ingredients. Pricey but worth it. - Garden Café: Solid international buffet, though the spread could use more local flavors. - Service: Staff were polished and proactive—they remembered my coffee preference by day two. Minor hiccup with slow room service one evening. Amenities: The indoor pool was a highlight (spotless and rarely crowded), but the gym equipment needs updating. The garden courtyard is a hidden gem for morning tea. Constructive Notes: - Wi-Fi was occasionally sluggish. - Some corridors felt worn compared to the renovated lobby. Verdict: A refined, slightly traditional hotel with superb service and location. Perfect for travelers who value tranquility over flashy modernity. Would return! Note: If you need adjustments (e.g., stricter 5-star praise or focus on leisure/business),...

I am writing this letter to express my deepest appreciation and to award your exceptional team the highest rating for their outstanding service and professionalism. My recent stay at your esteemed hotel once again exceeded my expectations, and I felt welcomed, valued, and truly at home. From the moment I arrived, the Guest Services Department team impressed me with their warm smiles, attentiveness, and dedication to ensuring a seamless and pleasant experience for every guest. I would like to especially commend Mr. Jiang Pei Liang, Ms. Ma Simin, and Mr. Zhang Yuanyuan for their exceptional professionalism and meticulous care. Their attention to detail and ability to anticipate my needs ensured I fully utilized and enjoyed all the facilities your hotel has to offer, making my stay incredibly convenient and comfortable. In the last two years, I spent 1-2 days in this hotel almost every month. I have only good things to say about it.|First: the position. The hotel is situated in the heart of Shanghai, in the wonderful neighborhood of the former French Concession, on the elegant avenue of Huai Hai (the Parisian Avenue Montaigne of Shanghai). It comprises the building of the former French Club, with its majestic ball hall, with its Belle Epoque architecture. For those who saw the movie;" The last emperor", this is the place where the balls were taking place in the 20's and 30's, and where the ball scene in the film was really turned. It is exactly the same today, if you plan your marriage in Shanghai, you may rent it...|In the front of the hotel, it is a park (also of the previous French club) - it is rare to have a private park in the center of a huge city like Shanghai.|The hotel is a relative new tower with beautiful, tasted-furnished rooms; maybe a little smaller than in other 5-star hotels, but the quality/price ratio is very advantageous. A working table with more points for your computers is a plus for those in business.|a good health center|elegant business room, elegant lobby rooms, elegant bar (all in the previous French club)|A wonderful service, I don't know the names of all the helpful personal (front desk, housekeeping, concierge, etc., etc.) who makes you stay perfect, maybe I can cite Mr. Li Jin, The Rooms Director.|The first time when I was the guest of the hotel, I had some problems with the breakfast (very rich American, Japanese and Chinese breakfast, but a short variety for a guest from continental Europe), I brought it to the attention of the hotel director, and since then I have been satisfied with the food for a continental European taste too.|i will continue to stay at this hotel every time when coming...

Highly Recommended! I stayed at the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai this July, right after returning from Japan, and it instantly reminded me of being back in Kyoto. The hotel has a beautiful sense of history, yet everything is so well maintained. From the concierge staff to the front desk, everyone was warm, proactive, and extremely helpful. We had a evening flight, and the hotel kindly offered us a late check-out. Even after checking out, the front desk arranged for us to use the health club facilities so we could take a shower before heading to the airport—such thoughtful service! The health club includes a gym, swimming pool, and Japanese-style bath with hot and cold pools as well as a sauna, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The room was spacious and bright, with excellent bedding. The view overlooked the hotel’s garden, making it quiet and peaceful—perfect for a good night’s sleep. The location is outstanding, right between Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road, next to Changle Road and Ruijin Road. It’s one of the best spots for city walk. The hotel has several restaurants that are well loved by locals. Hotel guests have 20% discount. I tried the Japanese restaurant, Yamazato. The tempura was average, but the sashimi rice bowl was outstanding—freshness on par with Tokyo’s Toyosu Market! It came with salmon, sea bream, three different cuts of tuna, uni, and salmon roe—absolutely delightful. This hotel will definitely be my family’s top choice whenever we visit Shanghai again.

I spent two visits here, both times a week around September 12th, once in 2018 and once in 2019. I was destined to go again in 2020 but then Covid happened and the rest is history. Both visits I could not have picked a better place to stay than the Okura Garden hotel. I loved the facilities, the rooms on both visits, the spaciousness and the cleanliness of it all. I went to Shanghai to visit my daughter (who lived there at the time) and meet some friends and colleagues. The Okura Garden hotel was a fabulous base-camp for all that. I could easily spend time in my room working on my various projects, meet with people down in the lobby for tea, refreshment and drinks, or with take a walk with friends through the hotel gardens, or have a drink in the cocktail bar high-up overlooking gorgeous Shanghai, or meet my daughter for breakfast, in the hotel's excellent breakfast restaurant, before we went to explore the city or region for the day. I think it is fair to say I fell in love with the city as well as the hotel. My daughter moved back to Europe in the summer of 2020 ... but I can't wait for the time when I can restart my newly found 'habit' of spending a week a year in Shanghai, in the Okura Garden Hotel.

We stayed four nights at this hotel. While they weren’t flexible with early check-in and didn’t respond to messages on Booking.com, the staff was exceptionally helpful, especially with my mom, who uses a wheelchair. Although few staff members spoke English, they always did their best to assist. It would be great to see them adopt more sustainable practices, offer more local products, support employees in learning English, and improve early check-in options—especially for elderly guests, families, and those traveling from afar. A special compliment for the person on the picture, which I can’t write his name in Chinese.
