I recently stayed at the Garden Hotel Shanghai and was utterly disappointed with the entire experience. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this establishment does not live up to its reputation.
First and foremost, the facilities are outdated and poorly maintained. The rooms were dingy, with peeling wallpaper and stained carpets. The air conditioning was barely functional, making the room uncomfortably hot. The so-called "luxury" amenities were a joke – the pool was dirty, and the gym equipment was broken and rusty.
However, what truly made my stay unbearable was the appalling level of service. The staff displayed a blatant bias in their treatment of guests. It was evident that white guests received preferential treatment, while Asians and black guests were treated with indifference and, at times, outright hostility. Simple requests were ignored unless repeatedly brought up, and only after numerous complaints did we receive the basic services that should be standard in any hotel.
I was shocked and disheartened by the discriminatory practices at this hotel. It's unacceptable in this day and age for such behavior to be tolerated. I strongly advise anyone considering a stay at the Garden Hotel to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other hotels where guests are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
