Prior to coming to the hotel, we wanted to find out how to get there. The hotel is a little difficult to find in Google Maps (there are 2 but the other one is incorrect). The easiest way to get to the hotel from Pudong is via the metro or maglev-metro (if it's still open when you arrive). The nearest metro station is Dashijie (line 8). You have to exit near Family Mart, turn left toward McDonald's and then go up the escalator. Outside, walk to the left then at the first intersection turn right. You should reach another intersection (cross that), the Inn would be the 3rd building on the left (in front of hair salon). We arrived late thus metro was closed so we decided to get a shuttle at the airport. The price we got for 4 people was 550, which seemed fair but then when we got to the hotel the driver pulled out a card saying we had to pay a 15% service charge! Don't be duped by the same scam. Maybe easier to take a taxi. ||We had a Mandarin speaking friend so check in was easier, but we tried to transact in English first to no avail. They have these cue cards on the reception which have basic questions you can probably use if you have no one in your party who can speak Mandarin. Hotel is secure, you can only access the floor where your room is on the elevator. Rooms are quite basic but is clean. There is free wifi but be prepared to use Yahoo or any other search engine instead of Google. Google sometimes works but more often than not it doesn't. There's free bottled water, tea, shampoo/soap combo, toothbrush kit and hair dryer. Very basic but worth it if you don't plan on staying in your room all day. They allowed us to check out at 1pm so they are flexible. ||Location is very central. The Dashijie station is a 5 min walk. From there Nanjing road, Yuyuan and other sites are just 1 or 2 stations away. I suggest you download Explore Shanghai app, was very useful for getting around.||There's a bunch of food stalls on Yunnan if you're adventurous and also Lawson, Family Mart, Tesco Express (convenience stores) that's open 24 hours. Starbucks is 2 min away, Mc Donald's on the Dashijie station. We also found out that there's a bunch of people selling street food late at night near the Dashijie station. ||Near the hotel, you can walk towards Huaihai for the more upscale malls with City Super, Lane Crawford, Sephora. There is also a digital plaza in Huaihai. You can also take the metro towards South huangpi then walk along Huaihai all the way back to the hotel.||Overall, aside from language issues (which to be fair you will encounter EVERYWHERE in Shanghai), this is a great hotel for...
Read moreAlways like Jinjiang Inn but was charged higher prices by Trip.com. No chioce as other platform requires a China HP no. to book. So, if you book via Trip.com, you are paying actually the walk-in rate of the hotel. If it is not a peak season, you might as well just go to the hotel and walk-in for a room. I booked 4 nights via Trip.com for this trip. First 3 nights was sold a misrepresented room which could 40% cheaper if walk-in. For Jinjiang Inn, I was charged the exactly walk-in rate. Imagine the profit they made. I have very low opinion for Trip.com now.As for Jinjiang Inn (Shanghai People's Square East Huaihai Road), the location is very good. Just 2 streets away are a few F&B own by the Govt and they sell food are very low prices. They are shops that operated for more than a century. You paid for the meal and collect your food from the counters. Really enjoyed the food there, There are Line 8 and 14 that you can easily connect to other lines. Not much shopping nearby, but easy to get to most of the places of interest. This was my last night, so it...
Read moreThis is a good hotel, looking at the balance between the price, location, and rooms. While the room was satisfactory, the toilet was fully made out of plastic and gave a feeling of an airplane bathroom. Nonetheless, I cannot complain about the room beyond esthetics. However, during check-in, my passport got damaged by the reception worker 0378002, who wouldn't listen that my passport cannot be scanned by the machine and must be copied manually, rather, she proceeded to insert the passport into the reader over 20 times, folding pages of the passport in the process, only to manually scan the passport like I initially told her. Considering that the passport contains my residence permit in it, this behavior is appalling , as now there exists a good chance my passport won't be accepted by border services when traveling because it can be considered "damaged". The hotel should train the staff better, and make sure to listen to foreign travellers, who most definitely know their documents better than the...
