We stayed here for two nights in December. It was me and my wife with our 3 years old boy. Saying that we'd enjoy a bigger bed to sleep with our kid, they gave us a free upgrade, and they also let us check in early in the morning since the room was already clean (and we needed a shower after a long flight). The upgraded room had a massive round bath tub in the room, not in the bathroom but in a separate section of the bedroom, which we found curious but our son loved it immensely. The room was very clean, the bathroom was very nice with a great shower. Shampoo, conditioner and two types of shower gel are provided. The bed was definitely the highlight of the room: large, comfortable, warm. Just perfect. The Wifi was fast, obviously with all the limitations that come with the Chinese Internet, and the signal was strong. The minibar comes stuffed with Coke, water, and other Chinese soft drink and they are all free and refilled every day. The only non-free drink provided is a bottle of french wine that we didn't touch. Also provided are Nespresso coffee and a selection of teas. Guests are also allowed to use a tea/coffee machine in the lobby 24/7, and there is a free "evening snack" offered to all guests between 10PM and midnight with some Chinese noodles, rice, and other most welcome snacks. Breakfast is not included in the stay and it costs 88 RMB, which we found to be a cheap price for what's provided. (Kids go free up to 1.20 metres in height). The breakfast is probably the best I've ever had. The selection is huge, with a large noodle bar, omelette corner, and basically all sort of possible breakfast, Western and Asian, sweet or savoury, you can think of. They also have a large roof terrace on the 4th floor that you can use for breakfast during the Summer. The hotel offers a small Gym, free to use washing machines, and a massage SPA decently priced at about 450 RMB for one hour-long sessions.
The staff has always been nice to us and available to answer all questions. They all speak English and we never had troubles communicating with them.
As many other reviewers have pointed out, the hotel is conveniently placed near People's Square, the Metro, and various roads filled with restaurants and shops. It's also close to the Bund and to Yuyuan and Yu Garden.
A perfect place to stay! If/when we'll be back in Shanghai we'll make sure to...
Read moreThere are many good things about the Ssaw Hotel which made our stay here good, however quite a few frustrations as well so depending on your needs this review could be useful or not! The room was spacious and clean, the bed comfortable and we had a great bathroom. Staff were slightly unhelpful. They seemed more interested in just getting you away from the desk than being helpful in saying how to get to the Metro, or where the supermarket was so you could "get your own milk" ( which was what we were told when asking about milk for tea in the room). We got a wave of the hand and then ignored in trying to get decent directions. Amenities were limited but seemed to cover the basics. No iron or ironing board in the room but they have a laundry for guests. We had breakfast included and the selection was great, but everything was cold - fried eggs, bacon, french toast the Asian selection etc all seemed to have been cooked an hour or so earlier then left out to go cold. Very limited fruit selection and lots of empty platters as the morning progressed and food was not replenished. The internet is very slow and unreliable. Being in Shanghai on business meant needing a good connection but the internet stopped many times per hour, and when connected it slowed down so websites timed out repeatedly. The location is not near the Bund and is in a bit of an awkward spot for taxis as there is no stopping in the front of the hotel. However the Metro Station is just a few...
Read moreReally helpful team at the front desk - particularly Jackson (manager) and Adam.||Hotel is a little way out from the main shopping area and Shanghai Bund, but easily walkable. It is also very close to a metro station - once one has the courage to try the metro.||Room was very pleasant and clean and well maintained by the cleaners - who was the most polite and helpful we met on our trip. Bed very comfortable including the "pull out" bed. Bit of an issue on day 1 when the blinds blocking sight into the en suite could not be reset, but the front desk team had that fixed as soon as reported.||On a rainy day discovered that the hotel was happy to lend umbrellas - so remember to ask.||Tea, coffee (black only options) and water is available to collect as one needs. A robot also delivers goods to the room where ordered through the desk: very polite :)||Appreciate the help from the team when we were looking for a restaurant: recommended dishes and placed a booking for us. They also were very helpful in sourcing taxis and advising on time to travel to our target location such that we were confident in arriving for a wedding reception and flight.||Breakfast upstairs is ok but nothing particularly special. Great view from the outside balcony particularly in the evening - good photo...
