Pentahotel Shanghai and the New World Hotel next door are sister hotels. They have an adjoining doors. Pentahotel is through the rotating doors and to the left.
Hotel lobby was very modern and trendy. They have lounge seating, a bar, cafe/restaurant, pool table, and some games. The rest of the hotel looks like it might have been older and recently remodeled. Some of the decor has a 70's-80's vibe.
My room on the 5th floor had a nice view of the city. The room had some stains on the floor and showed some wear, but overall it was a nice room. Bathroom was on the small side. Each room comes with a toothbrush/toothpaste, 2 bottles of water, kettle, hot tea (no coffee), safe, iron, hair dryer, and tv (3 English news channels and the rest in Chinese).
Service was ok, but English was not so good. Next door at the New World hotel you can use their business center, concierge, and spa (no pool).
The best part of this hotel was the location. Next to the metro/transit station, lots of restaurants on the street, Cloud Nine shopping mall (very modern with 9 floors) is nearby, and two coffee shops on the corner (Starbucks). The metro station is like 2 which takes you directly downtown and to Pudong Airport.

Read moreGreat hotel! Pros- Very cosy lobby and nice rooms. A cool lobby with pool table and games. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean, cosy and nicely decorated. Some other reviews are complaining about the lack of cleanliness but we noticed none of that. The room was cleaned every day, with free toothbrushes being replaced daily. The metro station is also conveniently right around the corner and for only a few yuan you can get right to the city in about 10-15 minutes.
Cons- The only complaints would be the fact that the Wifi was very slow. You get free wifi or you can choose to pay 60 yuan per day for faster internet. We chose the free option which was told to be enough for checking mails and websites. It wasn't.
We did not try the breakfast as it was a 100 yuan per day for two. Expensive, we could find good breakfast much...
Read moreIt looks like a fun hotel. The bar counter doubles as the reception so you may miss it on your first visit. The room was a bit tired but clean. My bed unfortunately looked like a real huge guy sat on it and gave it a debt right in the middle. Breakfast is great with a mix of Western and Chinese breakfast. Pork bacon, sausages, eggs by order, selection of bread and spreads, fruits, bircher oats with fruits, grains and raisins. Chinese breakfast varies but usual dumpling, rice porridge (congee) fried noodles, stir fry meats and vegetables. Dun like it, there are small local shops where you can enjoy...
