We were approached by an old lady asking if we had a room. Since we had a 15hrs lay over and I cancelled my previous booking due to a misunderstanding in the airport staff, i had to get a room since we all know that pudong airport is not a very comfortable place to stay overnight. So, I said yes to the very energetic old lady (she was a bit sketchy, though). She told me in advance that the room would be 300 Chinese money. Upon leaving the airport, we were waiting for the free shuttle, which was a small van (innova like) unit. It smells strongly of smoke. We were at T2, and the car had to go to T1 to pick up another people heading to the same hotel. I was scared at first as the van was sooooo sketchy, and we were both tiny girls at that time. After picking up 3 other passengers, i gathered my confidence to ask the young man if he was heading to the hotel, and i was glad he said yes. That sketchy driver really scared me. We drove around 25 minutes from airport to hotel. There was really nothing near the airport area. Upon arrival, the receptionist was only wearing pajamas. 😅 I was told it was 300 RMB, but when we arrived, another 30 RMB was charged. She said it was for the service fee or something. OMG. Since we were already there, tired and really in need of sleep, i just said yes. I used my card for the payment. Receptionist can speak a little English so, we used google Translate. The first room given to us had a broken window. Broken in a sense that it does not lock at all. Since we were on the ground floor, i could not trust my life with a broken window in China with a 5 degrees temperature. I told the receptionist, and good thing they replaced our room. There was a water dispenser in the room, a large cabinet, 2 large beds, and a big bathroom. I think there was no bidget in the toilet. The beds were okay, for me, but a little dusty. But, we didn't care as we just really need a warm room and a bed to get some sleep. My partner was able to sleep well, so I am satisfied with that. There was a warm shower, so i was able to change fresh clothes on the next day. There was a free shuttle bus to bring you to the airport. We booked the 6.50 slot for the pick up, but the bus arrived around 7.30ish. The funny thing with the bus pick up was the bus had to stop at several hotels/hostels to pick up more passengers hahaha it was very funny as i was not expecting that. Take note, the driver's assistant was VERY RUDE. We got to the hotel safely, though. Overall, you can book a better hotel with the same price as this. The total paid was 330 RMB. FIND A BETTER HOTEL and a safer one for the ladies. Vienna hotel is near this hotel, so you might as well pick that one. It was a scary experience for me, but it was an emergency for us, so we had no choice but to stay there. We stayed last January 2 for our layover. Photos and a video are attached for...
Read moreI deeply regret my brief stay at Jiejia Hotel in Shanghai. What was presented to me as a hotel turned out to be an establishment with conditions worse than a roadside inn, despite charging 398 RMB for just five hours.
From the moment I entered the room, I was overwhelmed by a stale, suffocating odor of cigarette smoke that lingered in the air, despite my being a non-smoker. The room itself was in deplorable condition:
The silicone around the shower booth was covered in black mold, clearly neglected for a very long time.
The air conditioner emitted an acrid, smoke-stained stench, and it had not been cleaned or maintained in years.
The paint on the walls was peeling off, revealing long-standing water damage and filth.
The floor of the room had not been properly cleaned; after walking barefoot, the soles of my feet turned completely black.
The hallway carpets were uneven, sagging in areas that felt unsafe to walk on, and visibly dirty.
As if the unhygienic conditions were not enough, the noise at night made it impossible to rest. Barking dogs, meowing cats, and groups of guests loudly conversing late into the night created an unbearable environment.
No guest should ever have to endure such a combination of unsanitary facilities, foul odors, and lack of basic soundproofing in a hotel that pretends to serve international travelers.
If I were the owner, I would invest money not in paying commissions to lure travelers from the airport, but in repairing, cleaning, and maintaining the interior to a standard that both Chinese and foreign guests could actually respect.
Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling deceived and ashamed that I wasted my time and money here. Instead of hospitality, what I encountered was neglect, false advertising, and a clear disregard for guest health and safety.
I strongly advise all travelers—domestic and international alike—to avoid Jiejia Hotel Shanghai. It was by far one of the most unpleasant lodging experiences I...
Read moreWe have stayed here twice earlier and the rooms OK for the price (Shanghai you know). On the last visit (Fall 2017) the WiFi didn’t work in our room but the attendant hit the hallway router with a wrench a few times and it worked but slow.| We are back again.. NO WIFI except in the lobby. Period. They have raised the price slightly and let the place go without maintenance or care. | Our bedding and bath are clean but the room needs painting and repairs, the hallway carpet is falling apart and for some reason there is a piece of tissue stuck on the smoke alarm??| Next time (fall 2019) we will try another place. There are other similar prices hotel available at the airport desks (like this one) which offer a room and shuttle and are nicer..at least one offers free breakfast.| Overall its safe, clean bed and bath with restaurants and a store next door but don’t expect...
