My wife and I stayed here on a little China holiday.||Sofitel is a global brand with extremely high standards and we will always book a room at a Sofitel with our eyes closed as we know we will have an amazing experience.||Which we have done dozens and dozens of time around the world and this is only the second time we are truly disappointed. I am giving it 2 stars because the rooms are new and elegant||One would think that on the first morning of the first day of any hotel employee training, they would be told "if the Do Not Disturb" sign is on, do not disturb the guests.||We checked-in at 12h30 after a long night of flying and allowed ourselves a 3h nap before meeting friends for dinner. Half-way through our nap as we were sleeping deeply, the phone rang "Hello Mr Flying_Llama, there is someone at your door with your welcome amenity but the DND is on".||Dumbfounded, I get up and open the door to receive a meager bowl containing 3 fruits to thank me for being a Platinum member with Accor. Obviously we can't get back to sleep after that.||Later, on my way out, I stop by the front desk and ask to speak to a manager to explain what had just happened and advise that person that some additional training will be required. The person who said was the manager did apologize but didn't seem to bothered and clearly had no intention to try any service recovery. Or maybe doesn't know what service recovery is.||Anyways, next on the list of issues is the temperature in the room. It's suffocating. It was 23 Celsius when we arrive and did not improve during our nap that was cut short, despite having the AC set on 16. It was still 23 when we got back late that evening and it was 25 the next morning when we woke up sweating.||I again advised the front desk that morning and they said they would send maintenance. We spent the day out and that evening nothing had improved so I go back down this time to be told that "as it's still cold at night, central AC doesn't work". It would be absolutely fine if I had the option to open a window but that's not an option at this hotel unfortunately. I was also told "you know we had 10 people telling us it was too cold this morning". Not a very professional way to handle this in my opinion.||I would expect to have the ability to choose if I want a cold or warm room when staying in a self-proclaimed luxury hotel. ||Finally, not as much of a big deal but something to probably laugh about. One of the perks of being an ALL member with Accor, as soon as Silver status in reached is to receive a welcome drink for each stay. When I enquired about our welcome drink at the bar, I was sent to the lounge on the second floor. In the lounge they said "You can have a soft drink or tea or coffee". I understand that different hotels have different policies but being a Platinum member I have access to the lounge and their soft drinks / tea / coffee offerings all day long regardless. So basically, the Sofitel North Bund is depriving me of one of my benefit (welcome drink) because I have a high status. ||Something needs to be done to bring back some basic standards and hospitality to this property. Will...
Read moreJust wanted to let people know that if your staying at this hotel Please be Aware that your room temperature will sit around 27c that with no air flow it is a telly uncomfortable place to stay, i had to stay here for 5 nights and it was terrible , (note largely due to no air)I asked for someone to confirm if my air con was working within 2 hours of getting into my room and the front desk basically said yes and it’s normal for it to be around 25-26 degrees as 25 is the set temperature and won’t be changed, they then said to turn the air con off and just use the fan system and that might help!So I did and it was no better, 2 days later I complained again is it was very unpleasant being in a room at that temp, they sent an a guy up to test the air con and he agreed that it was not working, they then had me change rooms which more of hassle as the room they put me in was doing exactly the same thing, again no air con, the only saving grace was it had a small window to open to get fresh air into the room, really disappointed I choose to stay here as there are hundreds of other nice hotels in that area, it was definitely not a cheap place to stay, one would think you would have the very basics of a aircon room On day 6 the morning of check out, the manager final acknowledge that they are having problems with the air conditioning system through out the buildingAnd he was sorry that I was happy with my stayAnd requested me not to review the hotel Which I replied with- people need to know how uncomfortable the room is at that temperature as I would not of booked this hotel knowing I was going to cook whilst trying to sleep at night, I would hate to think how hot it will be there in summer, I was lucky the day time temps were around 24-26 Also another thing to note is there are two new construction sites one is backing into the building and the other is 100 meters away both were extremely noisy with rock breakers going all day I don’t think the rock breaks will be going for 2 long but one would think that’s 2 buildings will be 30 plus floors high and take another year to build as there just coming out of the ground, keep this in mind if your staying here because the noise is 7 days a week sun up to sun down Ai don’t like to review anything but when your paying good money to stay in a nice hotel I think it would be nice to be informed that there is a lot of new construction going on and your room will have no air conditioning system , not be ignored and made to rough it! In saying that if your not concerned with construction noise and you like to sweat it out in your room at all times, this hotel would be...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Flawless Return Stay – Unmatched Service & Heartfelt HospitalityAfter an incredible first stay, we had to return—and it was even better the second time around. Between our two visits, we spent a day at a 24-hour spa in Shanghai, but even while we were away, Lockie from the concierge team stayed in constant touch. He made sure everything was prepared for our return, once again going above and beyond anything we expected. We had accumulated quite a few items to bring home, and Lockie took it upon himself to source a shipping box for us—complete with packing tape, already assembled and ready to go. And this was all done on his day off. He even insisted on helping us with food delivery when we couldn’t place an order due to not having a Chinese phone number. Despite our cravings coming from three different restaurants, he coordinated and arranged every order flawlessly, all with genuine warmth and patience. The hotel itself is immaculate—beautifully designed with refined, almost French-inspired elegance. Our room was spotless, serene, and filled with high-end amenities—even the disposable razor was impressively stylish. The housekeeping team was incredibly sweet and attentive. From the moment you step through the front door, someone is always there to greet you and open it. Staff help with taxis, luggage, and every possible detail—it truly feels like every guest is deeply cared for.Two of our standout experiences were made possible only because of Lockie’s exceptional dedication: 1. Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant – On a busy Saturday, there were no reservations available. Lockie quietly set a notification for when a slot would open, entered the queue using his own number—and even had a backup queue running on a colleague’s phone in case we missed the first. Because of that, we were seated within 30 minutes. 2. Gongyan Imperial Dinner Show – Known to sell out weeks in advance, we assumed it was too late. But Lockie found front-row VIP tickets, personally booked them, sent us the confirmation, and even followed up the night before with a reminder—all without us asking. This level of attentiveness and heart is rare. I truly feel like we made friends here. Between the exceptional service, beautiful accommodations, and heartfelt hospitality, this hotel has set a new standard for what a luxury stay should be. Without question, we’ll be back—and we’ll be recommending it to...
