Hotel Casa Colonial — Hotel in Barranquilla

Claudia, Ampara and Antonio were all awesome and very helpful. They helped me obtain palco tickets, told me about the area, and offered some great recommendations. The hotel itself had nice a nice common area for chatting with other travelers. ||||The hotel was in a great location, about 6 blocks from via 40 where carnaval was. There are some decent restaurants a block away, and an olimpico grocery store a block over and a block down. Hotel had decent WiFi, videos had a buffering time of about 15-20 seconds. Breakfasts were good - eggs however you wanted them, bread, fruit, juice, coffee and hot chocolate. They had reasonably priced laundry service.||||The room was recently remodeled. I'm not sure I would give it a very functional rating though. The air conditioner no matter how you pointed it would blow on your head all night. I didn't have hot water 3/4 of the mornings (I'm guessing due to the hotel being at capacity though). I also found the furniture and outlet placement to be awkward. The room had a flat screen tv, but most channels were fuzzy, like you would get with bunny ears. Nice bathroom though and it had a refrigerator.||||I would recommend this hotel to other travelers, especially for carnaval due to its excellent...

The staff here were so friendly and helpful, especially Claudia ,and the proprietor's son Richard ,who both went out of their way to make our visit for the carnival very memorable. ||The location is very good, near a handy supermarket tho the restaurants are limited, unless you like Sopa Mondongo and other local foods. So we bought our own food and the hotel kindly provided us with crockery and cutlery and we ate in the very pleasant garden onto which our room looked.||The hotel's location for the carnival, probably the only reason to visit the city, was great as we could walk to the carnival route, Via 40 , in about 25 minutes. Richard got us tickets for one of the palcos (grandstands) so we had a very enjoyable 2 days watching the wonderful 5 hour processions.||The room was very dark with rather unattractive electric lighting but was spacious and clean with a large fridge.The bathroom was also a good size tho the shower often had only barely tepid water.||The breakfast was generous, tho we did not eat as much as they expected,and was pleasantly served in the open area at the rear...

I struggle with my overall rating. Prior to arrival, I tired to reach the staff via email 4-5 times with no reply. I sent emails in English, translated, and through multiple sources to no avail. Onsite, the staff was freindly, courteous, and helpful despite the obvious language barrior. ||||1) The staff could not provide a map of Barranquilla or any specifics (timelines/options for activities outside of the Parade) about festivitiies surrounding Carnivale. This would have been helpful. We picked up our intel (usually late) on the street or through convos with other tourists. IE: The Troja is a street festival of salsa dancing and celebration that is all day/all night, dancing with then locals. Would have been nice to know about. It was casually mentioned as a place to go out night. Directions confusing. Ended up asking the taxi drivers. ||2) The room was clean with excellent wifi and AC. But, very small - no luggage rack, very musty smell on arrival. (ground floor room). Despite the old looking bathroom, it had a great shower with hot water. ||3) Nice breakfast served in AM with...
