Brilliant place for the first time visitors to Bogota as I was. The overseas volunteer work staff are fantastic, speak Spanish & are ready to offer any help they can with local places to eat & shop for food you can then make in the hostels kitchen. Or you can order a breakfast from hostel prepared by either of the two lovely & lively local lady's who afterwards clean the whole hostel from top to bottom each day. Claudia especially likes to put tunes on her phone while she works! The rooms are swept & bathrooms cleaned each day. The 2 dorm rooms have nice bunk beds with fluffy duvets & pillars with each bunk having a light & electrical socket to charge your devices. There 2 private rooms with a double bed also & are priced accordingly. The 2 bathrooms are modern, clean & roomy with shower & toilet. It's got a small courtyard with a covered plastic see through roof for relaxing in with a hammock to have a siesta! Theres loads of cards & advertisements in the hostel foyer for walking tours, bycycle tours around the city to check out. There's free coffee, free filtered water, free excellent WiFi & curved big t v to watch Netflix on those quiet days or for an hour. Also you can watch live football games from Europe or the 2 local teams. The hostel itself is placed in a very safe area of Bogota with a european style supermarket (relatively expensive), moderately priced cafes & restaurants on one side that are modern but retain the feel of Bogota. On the other side of the hostel, there are more local cheaper smaller cafes & bars that are vibrant with salsa music & a brilliant rock bar & a Bogota beer company pub next to a beautiful big church in a plaza full of shops, other eateries & a cheap supermarket. The hostel is open 24 hours so late night revellers can be assured of entry but not be noisy or inconsiderate to other sleeping guests. It was a pleasure to stay in this fantastic hostel & as I stayed for 9 days I couldn't have picked a better hostel. Mucho gracias...
Read moreWe stayed for a few days after arriving in Colombia at the start of a long South American trip and the Aurora was the perfect start. We arrived late after a long day travelling and the taxi took us straight to the front door of the hostel. We were greeted by our host in a friendly, welcoming manner and shown straight to our rooms. |Beds were comfy and had everything you wanted - shelf, light, curtain, charging point.|Lockers were located under the bunk beds which was annoying but they were still spacious.|They had 2 showers which were coldish but definitely standable (as to be expected) and toilets inside. Only downfall was that there could be a build up of queues in a morning!|Breakfast was 12,000 pesos which was a bargain as it was incredible - definitely recommend the Colombian style breakfast!|Hosts were always very friendly and very knowledgable - definitely helped with our stay!|Wifi was strong enough to do everything needed.|Location was good for a shortish walk for food/drinks and a very cheap taxi from the main centre.||Would 100% recommend Aurora as its clean, comfortable, welcoming...
Read moreWe'd really like to give a better review ...but we can't, altough the couple running the place seems geniunly nice and interested in offering a good service. We stayed three nights in a private double room and did not feel very comfortable.||||PRO: great location, good selection of restaurants and bars within 2 blocks, contemporary design, nice hot shower, safe area to stay, WLAN working pretty good.||||CONS: not very clean, very small double bed with even smaller blanket, no place to hang clothes, towels ect, very cold at night. Thin walls, very noisy. Noise till the early morning from the communal area very hearable in upstair rooms.||||If you stay here, bring ear plugs and a warm pyjama for the night. And bring cash since payment by card will add 5% to your bill (not...
