I booked this hostel based on the good reviews and the expectation that there will be someone who can speak English at the reception who can help me with orientation of the city and provide recommendations of where to visit and eat. ||I checked in around 5-6pm which is hardly a late check in and there was no one who can speak English to receive me even though when I got lost in the taxi earlier and rang the hostel and spoke to a woman by the name Claudia who (in her own words) tried to calm me down and that she was attentive to my arrival. I just assumed when I arrived I would meet her or at least have someone who I can communicate with.||The lady Martha who received me at the hostel spoke no English at all. Though she was nice and helpful, she could not provide useful assistance. It's my first trip to Bogota, South America in fact and I needed assistance with at least some basic orientation but there was nothing. No map no information. ||The room itself looks not as polished and nice as in the pictures. Maybe I'm just down on my luck to get the worst room. My room is on the 4th floor and the windows are not sound proof. Despite the jet lag, It took me a while to fall sleep because of noise and got woken up by traffic noise around 4am. Everyone else's door look painted and proper, mine was like a temporary door put in with the door knob much lower than the others and I had to bend down to put the key in. I had a cold shower because apparently to turn on the hot water you have to turn the tap on a little. If you turn it on proper, you will get cold water. Who would have thought of that - let's clean and wash your hair with a trickle of hot water?! It's not practical nor sensible. The fake flowers in the room look tacky, everything just looks sad and I could not bear it another night so I cancelled the remaining two nights and left. I'm now staying in an absolutely lovely hostel (Arche Noah) with fantastic customer service, staff who is happy and keen to introduce their city and country to the guests and I'm now inspired to visit a place or two which I have not initially planned for. Now that's the experience I am looking for and a good professional host should know know that.||If you are fluent in Spanish, don't need much orientation or assistance of anything, don't mind the noise and presentation, it could be an ok place to crash but otherwise spend more and...
Read moreAfterwards we read the review of ThruMyEye5 and we could just copy-paste it. ||The boy at the reception was very hard trying to do his best and did whatever he could. ||The room:|We had a double room with private bathroom on the fourth floor (no elevator) on the street side. Large bed which was good. The room didn’t look as shiny as on the pictures and had a not so clean doormat in front of the bathroom. |In the bathroom were footprints from the cleaner or previous guest. There was also a very bad smell and near the ceiling was a open space to the neighbors bathroom so you could hear them clearly. |In the room was a desk which was far from stable and an old office chair. |In the evening we arrived at 22:00 it was quite calm on the street but as soon as it became light, at 4:30 there was so much noisy traffic I didn’t sleep anymore. ||The location:|Hotel San Diego is a bit further from Candelaria center and in the streets it was very dark with no bars and restaurants within 5-10 minutes walking. I found it a bit obscure on the street. ||The staff:|Although they didn’t speak English they were helpful and did their best. ||We are traveling now for 1,5 year and this was one of the hotels we regretted as most. We booked three night but left after one night to Fatima suites, much better located and even a...
