This “hotel” is a JOKE hence the quoted word “hotel”. So glad for the many guests that had a good experience but sadly, my husband and I can’t say the same. Water went out just an hour after our arrival and after being reinstalled, their water heater apparently went out too so we NEVER had hot water. The guy at the front desk was plain rude when I called to inquire about it even though I didn’t do it in a mean way. He just cut me off in mid sentence and said “my boss is not answering; we’re operating only on the reserve tank” and that was it. Later, we were coming back from having dinner and as we walked in front of the reception, a family were asking the guy about the hot water to which I over heard him say “Oh, really? And no water is coming out?!” Acting all stupid as it was the first time he was hearing about it and had no clue. The shower walls, corners and glass door were nasty as well as the bedroom wall… the whole room felt so dirty… there was a very strong fragrance from a diffuser just trying to mask odors making it all worse. We had to leave the door open to air the room. I told the lady at the front desk and she was nice to send someone to dig that diffuser out of the room. At least the bedding was clean; and location is prime… I think it’s right to point out the positives just as well. I can’t say anything about their included breakfast because I didn’t have any; I only had coffee but that wasn’t good at all either. I hated that place. So glad I’m...
Read moreWe rented a "Deluxe Suite", the most expensive room offered by Hotel Penon. . If room 802 is their idea of a "DELUXE" accommodation, I would hate to see the rest of the rooms in this hotel. Thank goodness the air conditioning worked and the bed was comfortable. The room was a featureless box with painted brick walls. Three clothes hangers for 2 people is both ridiculous and stingy, plus we had to use them for the incredibly thin, rag-like towels because there wasn't a single towel rack or towel hook in the room. (Unless we let them drag across the floor with the one under the sink.) The rest of the furniture was so ugly and useless it looked like it was bought second hand - you couldn't pay me to sit on that lousy excuse for a couch. Of course, we would have needed Superman's x-ray vision to find the promised "city view". Unfortunately, I only have normal vision and I couldn't see through that concrete wall outside our window. The lobby construction mess is a joke, and it's sad and very rude that the hotel didn't make any effort to protect guests from the dust and dirt everywhere. It was supposed to be a little romantic getaway in a nice hotel, with the prospect of using it in the future for visitors. The former was not nearly as pleasant as hoped, and I would never recommend Hotel Penon to any friends or family. It is nothing more than a mediocre hotel on...
Read moreI’m giving this review 3 stars because while the service from the staff was generally good, my overall experience was disappointing due to the room situation. I paid extra to book a Deluxe Room, but was given what was clearly a Junior Suite – which is a lower-tier room according to the hotel’s own website.
When I raised this with the front desk, I was told I had been given the Deluxe Room, despite clear differences between what I booked and what I received. At that point, I felt either I was being lied to directly or the website is highly misleading with incorrect photos and room descriptions. Either way, it’s unacceptable for a property to advertise one thing and deliver another.
If you’re considering upgrading your room, I would recommend double-checking everything before you arrive and taking screenshots of your booking details and the room photos. It’s unfortunate, because the service otherwise was pleasant, but this left a sour taste in what could have been...
