I didn't like this museum when I came here almost six years ago, and I still don't like it now.
Some of the exhibit spaces, including nearly the entire third floor, had lighting that was very poorly placed. When you look up to see artwork on the upper parts of the display racks, the lights shine directly in your face and eyes. Surely they could have been more careful with the placement of that lighting.
It's difficult to find the place to buy your ticket as the signage is sparse.
I walked into an exhibition room and two women there (apparently cleaning it) scolded me for coming in. Well, why not put up some type of barrier in the doorway or simply close the doors if it's not open to the public?
The entire first floor exhibit should have been called Social Problems in Cali. It wasn't interesting at all. And in fact I saw the entire museum in about half an hour. In my humble opinion it's definitely not worth 20,000 pesos to come...

The museum is split into 3-4 buildings (looking at the place from the road). (1) The square section on the right (a few modern art installations) (2) the multi storey section on the left (which houses special exhibits & some permanent exhibitions), (3) another section on the left (which sometimes sells tickets - for movies / performances ?), and (4) another single storey colonial style building across the river (which houses contemporary art installations) Sections 2 & 4 were nice. You might need someone who can speak Spanish to help you with enquiries during purchase of tickets.

Read moreAfter visiting the museum of modern art in Medellin, I was underwhelmed at this highly rated art museum in Cali. One building is seemingly random photos about the history of the museum itself. The other building has 3 stories of galleries that are lackluster but maybe going for an avant-garde minimalist/hipster style? Lots of newspaper clippings on display about the museum. Aside from one other young man, I was the only person here. No English translations although I used my phone to help me translate whatever I didn’t know already. Still, meh.
Walking the streets of Cali is surely to be more interesting...
