My first reaction was "What? 75$ for this? But as the days passed ,this place really grew on me. Although the room was nothing special and with very old furniture and no hot water ,it was very comfortable. The room was very well cleaned every single day(compared to sloppy cleaning I have seen elsewhere) ,there was A/C which we never used because there was a huge ceiing fan that provided us with a very comfortable sleep. They served great food in the little restaurant on site at very good prices. There was a huge garden in the middle of the hotel with tables and chairs, huge trees that provided shade all day long ,where you could sit and eat or just relax. The best part though, was the family running this hotel. They were very helpful and although they worked long hours they tended to our every need.. On our first night there ,my husband had to go the clkinic because of a foot infection and the owner called a taxi , lend us money until we went to the bank the next day, and waited for us to return from the clinic at 11 p.m. to make sure we were ok. The next day they even called the pharmacy and got his medication delivered to the hotel. We felt obliged and could not believe that people that were basically strangers would treat us like family! Thanks for everything Mme Monique. You are a fantastic lady. Merci!||||By the way I found out later that no hot water in Cartagena is very common.Only 5 star hotels have hot water, and you can't find a 5 star hotel at 75$...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel for about five weeks and we loved it more the longer we stayed. The owner, manager and staff are personable and very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed with shaded courtyards, proximity to the beach, and many faithfully regular guests. A bonus is how friendly they were towards out dog, which comes as no surprise when you see their own menagerie of cats and dogs. There is even a pet store and vet next door, under the same roof. The style of the main building is old-fashioned classic, relaxed and funky everywhere else with an abundance of original artwork everywhere. The restaurant has excellent home cooked food...
Read moreHotel Bellavista is a quiet hideaway that seems as if it escaped notice since the 19th century. Huge trees grow quietly up out of the courtyards, the food is good, The staff is impeccably kind and helpful, and art, real art, abounds throughout the walls and passageways. It is right across from the beach - by no means one of the nicer beaches in cartagena, but good for a quick dip in the morning. it is close to the historic center and the better beaches and of course everywhere else in cartagena. We stay here every time we visit and would not go...
